Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain our enterprise-level data infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for building robust data pipelines, optimizing data delivery systems, and ensuring data quality and accessibility across the organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, analysts, product managers, and executive leadership to deliver actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making.
This position offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to contribute to our mission from anywhere in the United States. You'll be part of a collaborative team that values innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Architecture and Design: Gather, analyze, and structure complex datasets that meet both functional and non-functional business requirements. Design and implement scalable data models that support current and future business needs.
- Process Optimization: Identify, plan, and execute internal process improvements including re-architecting systems for greater flexibility, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes to enhance operational efficiency.
- Infrastructure Development: Build and maintain infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various sources using AWS and SQL technologies. Ensure robust, reliable, and performant data pipelines.
- Analytics and Insights: Develop analytical tools and instruments to leverage the data pipeline, providing meaningful insights into key business performance metrics including operational efficiency and customer acquisition.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with partners including data, design, product, and executive teams. Assist stakeholders with data-related technical issues and provide expert guidance on data infrastructure needs.
- Technical Leadership: Lead and provide expertise to functional project teams, participate in cross-functional initiatives, and mentor junior team members on best practices in data engineering.
- Problem Resolution: Handle complex issues requiring in-depth assessment of circumstances or information. Utilize autonomous judgment within broadly defined policies and procedures to determine the best approach for achieving work objectives.
- Vendor Management: Work with various external vendors, assisting in providing them with effective arrangements and experiences while ensuring seamless integration with our systems.
- Innovation and Adaptation: Produce or modify equipment and technology to serve evolving client needs. Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance our data capabilities.
- Additional Duties: Perform other work responsibilities as directed by the team lead or management.
Essential Qualifications

- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a similar technical role. Strong proficiency in AWS cloud services and SQL database technologies.
- Data Pipeline Experience: Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehouses, and real-time data processing systems.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala for data processing and automation tasks.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify complex problems, explore related information, and develop effective solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a related technical field.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Experience in the airline, travel, or transportation industry.
- Certifications in AWS (Solutions Architect, Data Analytics) or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows and MLOps practices.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, and equipment to the design and production of various products and services.
- Design Proficiency: Knowledge of design methods, tools, and principles associated with the production of precision technical plans, diagrams, drawings, and models.
- Logical Reasoning: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to issues.
- Information Synthesis: Capacity to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Problem Identification: Skilled in identifying complex issues and navigating related information to develop and evaluate options while implementing solutions.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong. It involves recognizing problems rather than solving them.
- Pattern Recognition: Capacity to combine snippets of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
- Multi-tasking Flexibility: Ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information (such as discourse, sounds, contact, or other sources).
