Geologist/Environmental Scientist

AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm that is committed to delivering a better world. They are seeking an entry-level Geologist/Environmental Scientist to join their Environmental Remediation team in Novi, Michigan, where the successful candidate will assist in gathering and analyzing geological data and conducting environmental fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging
• Oversight of contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations
• Working independently in the field. Participation in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training
• Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation
• Supporting office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of records
• Collect and record data and compare results to relevant studies, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
• Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays

Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
• As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
• Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
• Experience working on State of Michigan led projects
• Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells
• Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites
• Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues and sub-contractors alike
• Flexible with working hours and locations, frequent travel within 1 – 2-hour drive of Novi office, and occasionally further
• Willingness and ability to learn and rapidly master new tasks
• Strong research and report writing (including web-based research)
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Strong quality and time management
• Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative
• Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work
• Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition and environmental investigation or remediation
• Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs: MS Word and MS Excel
