Through completion of the arenaflex pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you may qualify for 8 (8) college credit hours as recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). This course is recommended for 3 semester hours at the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category and 5 semester hours in the upper-division baccalaureate degree category for a total of 8 semester hours.
Key Responsibilities
As a valued member of our pharmacy team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy while delivering exceptional customer service. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Patient Interaction: Serve as the front and center of our pharmacy operations, interacting with our customers and developing strong patient relationships. Greet customers and provide assistance with services and products, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Prescription Processing: Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions accurately. Enter patient and drug records into the system, ensuring information is entered correctly and efficiently.
- Prescription Preparation: Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical tablets, verifying medication is accurate, and checking for possible interactions. Work under the supervision of a pharmacist to ensure all prescriptions are prepared correctly.
- Quality Assurance: Report immediately any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company rules and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and quality improvement programs. Strictly adhere to company policy regarding good faith dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Customer Experience: Resolve customer issues and answer inquiries to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and company service characteristics (e.g., providing help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Financial Responsibilities: Accountable for registering all related income on assigned cash register, collecting and handling cash as required. Take customers to OTC aisles when possible to help them find products.
- Communication: Handle telephone calls that don't require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians. Process (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third-party prescription program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
- Inventory Management: Assist and support Pharmacy department stock management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipment of prescription drugs. Maintain knowledge of company asset protection techniques and document claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or broken goods related to Rx capsules.
- Clinical Support: May assist pharmacists in administering medical services such as the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other medical services as required. Assist pharmacy staff in coordination of clinical services, healthcare clinics, and external vendors.
- Community Relationships: Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, through medical provider detailing and outreach to health agencies, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist with outside and inside maintenance by ensuring the pharmacy department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat, and orderly in condition and appearance.
- Compliance: Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Review and comply with the arenaflex Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico)
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Basic math skills to fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring, and weighing medicines
- Good computer skills for pharmacy system operation
- Ability to handle cash and operate cash registers
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you an advantage in this role:
- Six months or more of experience in a retail environment
- Previous work experience in a pharmacy setting
- Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling
- Proficiency in computer systems and software
- Knowledge of store inventory management
- PTCB Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience in customer service roles
