What You'll Do

As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will dive into our mammoth scale of data to help unleash the power of retail data science. Your primary responsibility involves envisioning, creating, and maintaining data pipelines that our Data Researchers and Analysts can depend on with absolute confidence. You will be the architect of our data infrastructure, contributing to a coordination layer of complex data transformations.

Your daily work will involve refining raw data from multiple sources into targeted, valuable data assets ready for consumption in a governed manner. You will collaborate closely with Data Researchers, Analysts, other engineers, and business partners to solve complex and exciting challenges. Together, we build capabilities that grow the retail business model while having a positive impact on our customers' lives.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Transformation and Integration: Extract data from identified databases. Create data pipelines and transform data to structures relevant to specific problems by selecting appropriate methods. Stay current with emerging analysis trends and best practices in the industry.
• Data Source Identification: Support understanding of requirement demands and service level agreements. Identify the most suitable source for purpose-fit data. Perform initial data quality checks on extracted data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Data Modeling: Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, dependencies, and relationships to contribute to conceptual, physical, and logical data models. Foster Logical Data Models and Physical Data Models including data warehouse and data store designs. Define relational tables, primary and foreign keys, and stored procedures to create data model architecture. Evaluate existing data models and physical databases for variances and inconsistencies. Analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions.
• Code Development and Testing: Write code to develop required solutions and application features by determining appropriate programming languages and utilizing business, technical, and data requirements. Create test cases to review and validate proposed solution designs. Build proof-of-concept implementations. Test code using appropriate testing approaches. Deploy software to production servers. Contribute to code documentation, maintain playbooks, and provide optimal development updates.
• Applied Business Intelligence: Provide recommendations to business partners to address complex business problems. Develop business cases for projects with projected return on investment or cost savings. Translate business requirements into activities, tasks, and milestones while adapting to overall business strategy. Serve as the go-to person for complex needs with tangible solutions and outcomes. Suggest new processes and approaches to working.
• Data Governance: Establish, adjust, and report on data governance activities and recommendations. Implement data governance practices in collaboration with business partners and peers. Interpret organizational and regulatory policies on data. Educate others on data governance processes, practices, methods, and rules. Provide recommendations on required updates or contributions to data governance policies, practices, or rules.
• Technical Leadership: Demonstrate exceptional expertise and apply this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others. Support and adjust efforts to meet client and business needs while building commitment to perspectives and reasoning.
• Business Solution Implementation: Build relationships and networks with key stakeholders to support execution of business solutions. Identify business needs, determine, and execute necessary processes and practices.
• Policy Compliance and Ethics: Promote and support organizational policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity through training and providing guidance to others in their use and application, ensuring compliance.
• Continuous Improvement: Ensure business needs are met by evaluating ongoing effectiveness of current plans, projects, and initiatives. Apply concepts for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness; participate in and support community outreach events.
• Knowledge Transfer and Mentorship: Create training documentation and train end-users on data modeling. Supervise tasks of less experienced programmers and provide system troubleshooting support.

What You'll Bring

Essential Qualifications

• Technical Expertise: Proficient with Hadoop, Spark, Cloud technologies, Python/PySpark, and Java. Experience with streaming technologies and Kafka. Strong background in backend development.
• Programming Proficiency: Proven track record coding with at least one programming language such as Scala or Python. Ability to write efficient, maintainable, and scalable code.
• Cloud Platform Experience: Knowledgeable in at least one major cloud computing platform such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure.
• Data Modeling Skills: Skilled in data modeling and data migration protocols. Ability to design efficient database structures and data flow architectures.
• Preferred Technical Experience: Experience with GCP, data warehousing, and business intelligence tools is highly preferred. Experience with integration tools like Automic and Wind Flow is a significant plus.
• Large-Scale Solutions: Experience building highly scalable Big Data solutions and ETL ecosystems. Understanding of distributed computing concepts and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Databricks Expertise: Knowledge of Databricks is an added advantage and demonstrates familiarity with unified analytics platforms.
• Database Diversity: Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases like Universe DB, combined with RDBMS experience such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, is a strong plus.
• Messaging Systems: Hands-on working experience with messaging platforms like Kafka is preferred, demonstrating understanding of real-time data streaming.
• Process Improvement: Ability to increase team efficiency by improving cycles of Software Development, Requirement Intake, and Effort Estimation.
• Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively and innovatively when addressing technical challenges.
• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Alternative combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
