Position Overview: Senior Data Engineer

Are you ready to take your data engineering career to the next level? arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our Information and Examination team within the Applications Designing group. In this critical role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and infrastructure that support our rapidly growing business needs.

As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver essential data operations in a demanding and fast-paced environment. What You'll Do

As a key member of our data engineering team, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that drive the success of our data infrastructure. Your daily activities will include:


  • Design, develop, and maintain data solutions: Create, code, test, debug, and document programs and scripts using agreed-upon standards and tools to achieve well-designed outcomes that meet business requirements.

  • Establish data management frameworks: Determine comprehensive approaches to data management within established information architectures that support the development and secure operation of both existing and new information and digital services.

  • Process diverse data types: Collect and process raw, structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data using batch and real-time data processing frameworks.

  • Ensure data quality: Implement tools and frameworks for automating the identification of data quality issues, ensuring that data integrity remains uncompromised throughout the pipeline.

  • Collaborate with data providers: Work closely with internal and external data providers on data validation, providing feedback and implementing customized improvements to data feeds and data mappings.

  • Mentor and lead: Coach and lead junior data engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure best practices are consistently applied.

  • Provide ongoing support: Offer continuous support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.

  • Handle sensitive data: Work with systems that process sensitive data, adhering to strict SOX controls and change management processes to maintain compliance and security.

  • Estimate project efforts: Provide timely and accurate estimates for newly proposed functionality enhancements.

  • Drive improvements: Develop, validate, and recommend improvements to Applications in the areas of standards, methodologies, compliance, and quality assurance practices.

  • Participate in code reviews: Take part in design and code walkthroughs to ensure code quality and knowledge sharing across the team.

  • Apply technical expertise: Use technical and domain knowledge to develop and implement effective solutions while providing hands-on coaching to team members throughout all stages of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies.

  • On-call support: Be available for potential emergency support as required to maintain business continuity.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Database expertise: Solid experience with relational and parallel processing databases such as Vertica, SQL Server, and MySQL. NoSQL database experience is a plus!

  • Data warehousing background: Strong foundation in data warehousing, data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.

  • SQL proficiency: Strong capability in SQL and query writing is required.

  • ETL/ELT pipeline experience: Experience creating, maintaining, and improving ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and Airflow.

  • API knowledge: Familiarity with common APIs including REST and SOAP.

  • Scalable systems design: Experience with design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, including source-of-truth systems for various business areas.

  • Web services development: Experience developing and maintaining web services in an Agile environment.

  • Executive reporting: Strong experience with interactive dashboards and reports creation for C-Level executives.

  • Multi-project management: Ability to support multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to design effective solutions.

  • Communication skills: Strong communication, organizational, negotiation skills, and flexibility to address competing demands.

  • Location: Austin, Texas (USA) - hybrid or remote options available for the right candidate.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):


  • Experience with data science tools such as Pandas, NumPy, R, TensorFlow, and Keras.

  • Understanding of distributed computing, including how HDFS, Spark, and Presto work.

  • Work experience with SSIS and Informatica.

  • Knowledge of real-time messaging tools such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, Apache Beam, Apache Flink, and Spark.

  • Experience in Big Data processing using Apache Hadoop/Spark ecosystem applications like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and HDFS.

  • Experience working with systems at scale and with Docker/Kubernetes/Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.

  • Work experience with Tableau.
