Junior Electrical & Controls Designer

WSP is a leading professional services firm that focuses on shaping communities to advance humanity. They are seeking a Junior Electrical & Controls Designer to support energy systems projects, helping to produce design deliverables while collaborating with multidisciplinary experts.


Responsibilities

  • Support the review of P&IDs and project markups, helping translate them into accurate electrical drawings and specifications
  • Assist with electrical drawing packages for approval, bid, and construction (e.g., single‑line diagrams, basic schematics, lighting layouts, and control details)
  • Apply established engineering and construction standards under guidance from senior designers/engineers
  • Help mark up vendor package/skid drawings to align with project requirements and discipline coordination needs
  • Contribute practical wiring and installation details to support constructability and field execution
  • Participate in coordination with mechanical, process, civil, structural, and other teams to keep deliverables aligned
  • Assist with requisitions, BOM reviews, and document control to help maintain high-quality project outputs
  • Provide junior-level support during construction (e.g., responding to design questions, documenting changes, and escalating issues appropriately)

Skills

  • A technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology (or a related discipline) from a recognized post‑secondary institution
  • 0–3 years of electrical drafting/design experience (including co‑op, internship, or entry‑level consulting/EPC exposure)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD; interest or exposure to 3D CADD tools is a plus
  • Comfort working in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment with attention to detail and a willingness to learn
  • A genuine interest in projects supporting decarbonization, climate adaptation, and resilient energy systems
  • Exposure to heavy industrial facilities (oil & gas, gas compression, processing facilities, or energy transition projects) is an asset, not a requirement
