Perkins&Will is a design firm committed to excellence in architecture and interior design. The Interior Designer I role involves assisting throughout the design process, contributing to project goals, and learning to integrate design concepts while ensuring sustainability.


Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance throughout the interior design process under routine guidance; contributes to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in interior design, execution, and living design
  • Begins to understand the architectural design process and integration of interior design concepts
  • Participates in preparing contract documents, including but not limited to floor plans and details, reflected ceiling plans, mill work design, furniture layouts, finish plans, and schedules
  • Assists in creating presentation materials and models for client presentations
  • Learns to manipulate basic design elements such as spatial layout, color, light, texture, and scale
  • Researches manufacturers and contributes to selection of colors, finishes, materials, furniture, and lighting for interior application, ensuring sustainability goals of the firm are maintained
  • Contributes to programming and space planning analysis and provides area calculations
  • Gains exposure to knowledge of project scope, budgets, and deliverables
  • Uses a creative approach to perform tasks and responsibilities on projects in an organized, timely, and consistent way
  • Self-checks work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual
  • Proactively asks questions and expresses curiosity about the world of design, materials, and products as well as the industry at large
  • Provides support to tasks within project teams (may focus on individual detailed tasks) and studio activities
  • Participates in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups
  • Keeps open communication within team and with designated team leader
  • Communicates ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires others
  • Assists with coordination among partners and consultants

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in interiors, architecture, or related discipline required
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, visualization, and graphic software; Revit strongly preferred
  • Additional proficiencies may include site analysis, preliminary design studies, and field measurements
  • Additional skills should include Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel, Lumion, and Rhino
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills, attention to detail, and motivation to learn
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic
  • LEED GA within 6 months of hire
  • Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation
  • Preparing for NCIDQ exam
