Software Engineer I

The Walt Disney Company is a global leader in entertainment and media, and they are seeking a Software Engineer I to join their Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology team. This role involves building and supporting the metadata and artwork platform for Disney+, ESPN+, and other streaming services, focusing on integrating content from various studios and enhancing user experience.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of engineers building software in a collaborative development process
• Build high-performance, stable, scalable systems to be deployed in an enterprise setting
• Assist with AI-related development tasks, such as integrating existing AI or machine-learning services and verifying basic inputs and outputs
• Participate in high-level architecture discussions and planning sessions
• Participate in the code review process by providing feedback on pull requests
• Participate in on-call rotation, supporting systems and services during production incidents

Skills

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and learn quickly
• Demonstrated eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies
• Experience with at least one programming language; preferred languages include TypeScript or Java, with C++ or JavaScript also acceptable
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles
• Familiarity with RESTful services and API concepts
• Understanding of source control fundamentals, with exposure to Git
• Knowledge of data persistence technologies (SQL and/or NoSQL)
• Exposure to build and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Docker
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
