Position Overview: Information Researcher – Real World Evidence
The Information Researcher – RWE will be responsible for generating Real World Evidence (RWE) through advanced research and innovative methodologies in the clinical trials space. As an integral part of our Clinical Data Science team, you will have the opportunity to impact internal and external decision-making through the use of cutting-edge data science and technology. In this role, you will conduct sophisticated data analysis to help address critical business questions that shape the future of healthcare treatments.
This position reports to the Executive Director of Clinical Data Science and offers significant visibility into both internal strategic initiatives and external client projects. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, including clinical operations, medical affairs, biostatistics, and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
As a Real World Evidence Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will be responsible for:
- Data Mining and Analysis: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from internal data assets or licensed platforms, analyze and interpret results, and help shape overall analysis strategy for RWE studies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. This includes analyzing unmet needs, safety and efficacy of treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns, and healthcare economic burden.
- Data Transformation: Clean, transform, and store data into a structured data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization, ensuring data quality and accessibility.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/Real World Data (RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes.
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities, applying advanced analytics and tools to answer scientific questions from biopharmaceutical companies.
- Research Study Support: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, including protocol development, statistical analysis plans, and study implementation.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations, maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity.
- Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for both internal and external use, effectively communicating complex findings to diverse audiences.
- Vendor Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, and drive RWD quality assessments to inform investment decisions.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must possess:
- Statistical Expertise: Experience designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Strong foundation in study design, causal inference, and statistical modeling.
- Statistical Methods Knowledge: Proficiency in common statistical testing techniques including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.
- Large Data Handling: Experience processing large datasets from multiple data sources, with the ability to manage, clean, and transform high-volume healthcare data.
- Data Privacy Compliance: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and data privacy requirements.
- BI Tools Proficiency: Knowledge of at least one of the following: SAS, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other business intelligence and visualization tools.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, epidemiology, public health, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced Degree: PhD or Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Healthcare Data Experience: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease libraries, and insurance claims databases.
- Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD-9/10, Read Code, SNOMED CT).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as well as regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO standards, MDD/MDR, CFR Title 21).
- Alternative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, especially those enabled by technology platforms or solutions (wearables, patient apps, digital health tools).
- Advanced Analytics: Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, and computational statistics.
- Machine Learning: Understanding of machine learning methods and the ability to continue self-learning of both technical and non-technical skills.
