Position Overview
We are currently looking for a Real World Evidence (RWE) Data Scientist to support our Clinical Data Science division. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and executing sophisticated data analyses that generate meaningful real-world evidence from diverse healthcare data sources. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that address critical business questions in the clinical trials space.
This is a part-time remote position that offers flexibility and work-life balance while allowing you to make a significant impact in the healthcare industry. Key Responsibilities
- Data Mining and Analysis: Mine raw datasets from internal data repositories and licensed platforms to create normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts. Analyze and interpret complex data to deliver meaningful insights that shape our research strategy.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with clinical trial teams and other stakeholders to extract valuable insights from real-world, clinical, and diverse data sources. Support biopharmaceutical RWE requests and clinical trial inquiries, including analyses of unmet medical needs, safety and efficacy profiles in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
- Data Management and Organization: Clean, transform, and store data into a unified data lake architecture that supports future analysis and enables broader team utilization. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across the organization.
- Statistical Analysis and Modeling: Perform advanced data mining and statistical analysis on real-world evidence/real-world data (RWE/RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes. Apply sophisticated statistical methodologies to address complex research questions.
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities. Apply advanced analytics tools and techniques to answer scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical partners.
- Research Study Execution: Collaborate on the design and implementation of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity in all analytical approaches.
- Quality Assurance and Reporting: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations. Develop dashboards, analyses, and comprehensive reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Vendor Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors. Drive RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions and ensure we work with the highest quality data sources.
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Public Health, or a related quantitative field. Advanced degrees are a plus but not required.
- Technical Proficiency: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with statistical programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL. Strong coding skills and the ability to manipulate large datasets efficiently.
- Statistical Expertise: Experience designing and executing robust, reproducible statistical investigations in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Proficiency in common statistical testing methods including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.
- Data Handling Experience: Demonstrated experience processing large-scale data from multiple diverse data sources. Familiarity with data lake architectures and cloud-based data platforms.
- Healthcare Data Privacy: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to privacy regulations and security protocols.
- Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other business intelligence and visualization tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Electronic Health Records, disease registries, and insurance claims databases. Deep understanding of healthcare data ecosystems and patient journey analysis.
- Clinical Data Standards: Familiarity with clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD-9/10, Read Codes, SNOMED CT).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO standards, MDD/MDR, CFR Title 21).
- Alternative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and innovative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and digital health solutions.
- Advanced Methodologies: Knowledge of clinical trial design, Bayesian modeling, sequential analysis, and computational statistics. Understanding of machine learning techniques and their application in healthcare analytics.
- Continuous Learning: Strong understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques with a demonstrated ability to continuously self-learn and stay current with emerging technical and non-technical skills.
