Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated professional to undertake monetary modeling through collecting and studying data to make underwriting and pricing recommendations. This role will lead data analytics initiatives, collaborate with internal business partners to expand financial forecast models and supporting documentation, and communicate the end results of such analysis to internal management. Key Responsibilities
As a Pharmacy Pricing & Underwriting Analyst at arenaflex, you will be responsible for a wide range of analytical and strategic tasks that directly impact our business operations and client relationships. Your primary duties will include:
- Data Analysis and Modeling: Query, report, and analyze data while preparing analytics, including pricing and financial models leveraging advanced Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and SQL techniques for opportunities received from pharmacy benefit managers, health plans, and/or healthcare consultants.
- Advanced Excel Proficiency: Utilize advanced level Microsoft Excel skills to create and maintain advanced forecasting and underwriting models, including developing pivot tables, creating Macros, using VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, SUMIFS, troubleshooting formula errors, and performing formula auditing.
- Database Management: Utilize intermediate level ability of Microsoft Access, SAS, and SQL to query and analyze large and complex data sets, including developing parameter and action queries, joining tables, creating cross-tab queries, and using Macros to provide user interaction and automate tasks.
- Process Improvement: Responsible for tracking, analysis, reporting, automation efforts, and recommendation of process improvements in order to guide and enhance contemporary pricing mechanisms.
- Problem Resolution: Identify and solve pricing issues through performing analysis that involves retrieving and analyzing both internal data and data obtained from third parties.
- Data Interpretation: Analyze data and sets of data to become accountable for the results portrayed through that analysis, ensuring accuracy and reliability of all findings.
- Business Response: Utilize standard operating procedures to analyze and respond to inquiries from internal business partners concerning pricing for various lines of business including retail, specialty, immunizations, and clinics.
- Financial Recommendations: Provide compensation rate recommendations based on complex pricing models for multi-million dollar opportunities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate and collaborate with business partners (at all levels of the organization) in other functional areas, including finance, reporting, operations, business development, and sales.
- Executive Presentations: Present pricing concept recommendations, data analysis, and financial models to management and leadership on a regular basis.
- Documentation: Prepare Senior level executive documentation of pricing concept monetary metric recommendations (Executive Governance Memos).
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Math, Business, Actuarial Science, or Pharmacoeconomics; OR High School Diploma/GED with at least three years of experience in Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM), Contracting, Finance, Account Management, or Pricing; or any combination of education and experience which could provide an equivalent background.
- Technical Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of data, business metrics, and operational processes.
- Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking competencies and experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and discover solutions. Ability to challenge results, address ambiguity, solve problems, make decisions, see trends/patterns in data sets, and identify root causes.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication competencies essential to provide information to executives and leaders throughout the organization.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task concurrent assignments while meeting deadlines with a high-quality product.
- Customer Service: Experience providing customer service to internal and external clients, including meeting quality standards.
- Microsoft Office Proficiency:
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a topic, formatting person spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide format and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, setting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
- Travel: Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications would be advantageous:
- Previous experience in Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) pricing and underwriting
- Advanced knowledge of healthcare industry pricing models
- Experience working with large-scale data analytics projects
- Strong background in financial forecasting and statistical modeling
