Position Overview

We are currently seeking a motivated and passionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our health services team at Glenwood Middle School. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to work with diverse student populations at all stages of their educational journey. As a School Nurse (LPN) at arenaflex, you will be responsible for providing direct health care services to students, managing health records, coordinating with families and medical professionals, and promoting health education initiatives within the school community. Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities as a School Nurse (LPN) at arenaflex will include, but are not limited to:


  • Direct Patient Care: Provide immediate care and first aid to students and staff who experience illness or injury during school hours. This includes assessing symptoms, administering appropriate treatment, and determining whether students need to be sent home or require further medical attention.

  • Health Assessments: Conduct routine health screenings, including vision and hearing assessments, and maintain accurate records of student health status. Ensure all health information is properly documented and updated in accordance with state and district regulations.

  • Medication Management: Oversee the administration of prescribed medications to students during the school day, ensuring proper storage, documentation, and adherence to physician orders and school policies.

  • Chronic Condition Management: Support students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and other medical needs. Develop and implement individualized health plans (IHPs) in coordination with families, physicians, and school staff.

  • Health Education: Promote health and wellness through classroom presentations, informational materials, and one-on-one counseling with students on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, mental health awareness, and disease prevention.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between families, school staff, and healthcare providers. Communicate effectively about student health needs and ensure that appropriate accommodations are made for students requiring special health services.

  • Compliance and Documentation: Maintain compliance with all state health regulations, school district policies, and federal laws regarding student health information and privacy (HIPAA/FERPA).

  • Emergency Response: Participate in the development and implementation of emergency response plans. Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other crisis situations.

  • Immunization and Record Keeping: Review and maintain student immunization records, ensuring compliance with Illinois state requirements. Coordinate with families regarding missing documentation.

  • Screenings and Wellness Programs: Participate in school-wide health initiatives, including screening programs, vaccination clinics, and wellness campaigns.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Qualifications:


  • Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Illinois.

  • Current CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain within the first 30 days of employment.

  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience, preferably in a pediatric, school, or community health setting.

  • Strong understanding of Illinois state health regulations and school health policies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with applicable school nurse endorsement(s) or willingness to obtain appropriate certification.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Previous experience working in a school setting, preferably at the middle school level.

  • Experience with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans.

  • Knowledge of common childhood illnesses, developmental stages, and adolescent health issues.

  • Background in mental health first aid and familiarity with youth mental health resources.

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish or other languages) are highly valued.

  • Experience with health education and promotion activities.
