Position Overview
Are you a visionary leader with a passion for data science and artificial intelligence in healthcare? Do you want to leverage your technical expertise and people management skills to drive innovations that will fundamentally change how pharmacy services are delivered? arenaflex is seeking an experienced Lead Director of Data Science, Patient Safety Analytics to join our Retail Pharmacy Analytics team.
This is a transformative leadership role reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of Patient Health and Pharmacy Operations Analytics. As the Director of Data Science for Patient Safety, you will utilize your technical and product management expertise to drive our AI innovation that will revolutionize the way arenaflex fills prescriptions across our nationwide pharmacy network. You will be responsible for leading analytical solutions and processes designed to support the allocation of controlled substances across 9,700+ pharmacy locations.

Key Responsibilities
As the Lead Director of Data Science at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in shaping our patient safety initiatives through AI and machine learning technologies. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Lead drives to improve patient safety and advance evidence-based practice arrangements using both traditional and AI/ML techniques to ensure the highest standards of care across all pharmacy locations.
- Engage with key enterprise leaders to identify new applications of artificial intelligence in patient safety subjects, leveraging your deep technology expertise to propose innovative solutions that address critical healthcare challenges.
- Input business requirements from various stakeholders, lead analysis of vast amounts of healthcare data, and develop comprehensive strategies and policies to solve complex problems affecting patient safety and operational efficiency.
- Direct or facilitate appropriate testing of analytical solutions including machine learning and artificial intelligence to ensure results are consistent with business requirements and meet regulatory compliance standards.
- Develop and present meaningful and insights-driven materials on analytical outcomes with implications and action plans to direct various audiences including internal partners and senior leadership.
- Create and mentor data scientists, contribute to their learning and training plans, facilitate knowledge sharing sessions, and provide feedback on technology stack and professional development.
- Collaborate with business leaders and partners to help inform strategy and innovation, prioritization of analytical efforts, and definition of specific workplans and projects to execute across the retail pharmacy chain.
- Effectively influence and communicate with non-technical audiences using facts and well-reasoned cases to drive adoption of data-driven solutions throughout the organization.
- Prevention of patient safety events via systematically calculated solutions powered by AI/ML will be the foundation of this team's mission, ensuring that every patient receives the safest possible care.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role at arenaflex, you must possess the following qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience leading and inspiring high-performing teams with a track record of delivering timely and periodic feedback to direct reports and holding them accountable for achieving quality outcomes.
- Ability to think strategically including defining objectives, analyzing key elements, managing financial implications, evaluating risks, and developing strategies for success.
- 8+ years' experience in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and agile development, including providing business requirements focused on data and analytics.
- Strong leadership skills, strategic mindset and experience driving highly technical teams focused on delivering data and analytics solutions in healthcare settings.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel and consistently prioritize key objectives.
- Ability to engage with senior business partners, execute level-appropriate communication, and demonstrate influencing skills to drive organizational change.
- Deep experience in data modeling/analysis with SQL, Python, Tableau and/or other advanced analytical tools.
- Highly energetic individual who thrives in a very fast-paced environment both independently and with a team.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required in a relevant field.
- Master's degree preferred in Statistics, Computer Science, Biology, or related STEM field.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Strong analytical and data skills including substantial training in statistics and data analysis, understanding of data management and visualization, ability to interpret results of machine learning models.
- Hands-on experience using and managing projects utilizing Cloud (Azure, GCP, AWS) technologies.
- Master-level programming skills in Python, R, TensorFlow, or other data science environments with strong data management and reporting capabilities.
- Understanding of deploying machine learning models in real-time production environments including cloud (Azure, AWS), Flash-based systems, etc.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead and participate in multiple projects and initiatives while effectively prioritizing both personal workload and that of direct reports.
- Highest level of attention to detail while working within legal and compliance regulations, primarily around HIPAA, patient safety work product, and attorney/client privilege while handling sensitive, confidential, and protected data.
- Healthcare industry experience with deep understanding of pharmacy operations, patient safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
