Position Overview: Data Engineer, Data Platform

We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Platform Engineering team at arenaflex. In this critical role, you will be responsible for building highly automated, low-latency core datasets that will empower data engineers and end users across the organization to work with analytical data at scale. Your technical expertise will directly impact our ability to deliver real-time insights and drive data-informed decision-making throughout the company.

Your Impact

As a Data Engineer in our Data Platform Engineering group, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our data infrastructure. Your contributions will include:

Driving Analysis Accessibility: Create and modify core data models and storage structures while thoroughly understanding the requirements of our internal clients. You'll make complex data accessible and user-friendly across the organization.

Real-Time Data Pipeline Development: Make analytical data and metrics available within seconds of real-world events occurring. You'll build streaming pipelines for derived events and aggregated data, ensuring our teams always have the most current information at their fingertips.

High-Volume Data Architecture: Lead the model construction, storage, and access of data at exceptionally high volumes for our data lakehouse. You'll design systems that can handle massive scale while maintaining performance and reliability.

Developer Productivity Enhancement: Improve developer productivity and self-serve capabilities by contributing components to our stream data processing framework(s), enabling faster iteration and innovation across teams.

Infrastructure as Code Ownership: Own data engineering's infrastructure as code for provisioning services that allow our specialists to deploy mature software foundations within just a few hours—accelerating time-to-value for new initiatives.

Scalable System Development: Build elite processes that will allow our systems to scale gracefully as our data volumes and user base continue to grow exponentially.

Mentorship and Team Development: Coach other back-end engineers in the team and help them grow their technical skills and career paths, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Cloud-Native Distributed Systems: Build and contribute to AWS high-scale distributed systems on the backend, leveraging best practices in cloud architecture and microservices design.

Collaborate Effectively: Be willing to work in person two weeks per quarter, traveling as needed to the hub where the team is based, while embracing our remote-first hybrid model for day-to-day operations.

Programming Expertise: Bring hands-on experience with Python, Scala, or Java, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.

Database Proficiency: Demonstrate experience designing database products and writing complex SQL queries to extract and transform data effectively.

API and Service Design: Have experience designing and deploying APIs and services that meet enterprise-grade requirements for reliability, scalability, and performance.

Infrastructure Design: Show expertise in infrastructure design and building within modern tooling ecosystems, understanding the principles of distributed systems.

Data Lake Experience: Possess experience handling applications that work with data from data lakes, understanding the unique challenges and opportunities they present.

Internal Tool Development: Have at least some experience building internal admin sites and tooling that enhances team productivity.

Cloud Platform Knowledge: Bring strong knowledge of AWS, or alternatively, deep expertise in Azure or Google Cloud Engine with the ability to quickly learn AWS fundamentals.

Problem-Solving Agility: Demonstrate the ability to efficiently evaluate open source or third-party solutions to accomplish goals, or devise quick and elegant solutions independently when existing tools don't meet needs.
