Position Overview
We are expanding our Data Center operations team and looking for an experienced engineer who can provide expert technical support across our portfolio of data center facilities. This position requires someone with deep expertise in critical infrastructure systems, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capability to manage complex operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical systems, along with demonstrated experience in incident management, change management, and vendor coordination. You'll serve as the primary operational contact for your assigned facilities, ensuring optimal performance while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As a Data Center Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for the following core duties:
- End-to-End Incident Management: Own all data center changes, events, incidents, and troubles from identification through resolution. Oversee completion of post-mortems, root cause analysis, and follow-up corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Plan and execute facility infrastructure maintenance to the highest standards, ensuring minimal disruption to operations while maximizing system reliability and lifespan.
- Asset & Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of all data center equipment, assets, and inventory. Ensure proper tracking, tagging, and documentation of all critical infrastructure components.
- Documentation & Procedures: Develop and maintain comprehensive method statements, standard operating procedures, emergency response protocols, preventive maintenance programs, and all technical documentation.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure standardization and consistency with industry-best practices. Implement technical writing skills and automation improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- System Knowledge Development: Develop a thorough understanding of design intent, operational options, and contingency plans for all data center systems to ensure comprehensive coverage of all scenarios.
- Financial & Compliance Management: Manage engineering aspects related to cost control, code and regulatory compliance, staff management, workforce training, and development.
- Health, Safety & Environment: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, local statutory requirements, environmental standards, and energy management programs.
- Reporting & Performance: Develop and deliver daily engineering reports, ensuring adherence to contracted Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate operational philosophies, technical information, and expectations to internal teams and external vendor partners.
- Hands-On Technical Support: Provide direct facility support including installation of new equipment, decommissioning of legacy systems, replacement of defective components, and internal audits.
- Compliance Auditing: Oversee technical compliance auditing and ensure timely closure of corrective action plans. Conduct annual operational reviews focusing on adherence to arenaflex standards and regulatory requirements.
- Energy Management: Manage the development and delivery of energy and environmental management programs. Stay current with industry innovations and emerging technologies.
- On-Call Support: Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation, scheduled weekend work support, and rotational shifts as required to ensure continuous operational coverage.
Required Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following essential requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in data center operations with on-call support for critical facility infrastructure.
- Education: Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of mission-critical systems including data centers, hospitals, power plants, or similar high-availability facilities.
- Self-Motivation: Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision while taking full ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify root causes of issues and step back to understand broader context before implementing solutions.
- Vendor Management: Previous experience in vendor negotiation and contract management for data center and/or facility services.
- Documentation Skills: Ability to write and review accurate complete support procedures, equipment documentation, and issue tracking entries.
- Decision Making: Demonstrates good judgment and instincts when making decisions under pressure.
- Prioritization: Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in complex, fast-paced environments with competing demands.
- Continuous Learning: Proactively and continuously improve knowledge about arenaflex business operations and relevant technologies.
- Ownership mentality: Ability to take complete ownership of technical issues brought by internal or external stakeholders. If unable to resolve independently, demonstrate willingness to engage other support teams to drive issues to resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Advanced certifications in data center operations (CDCP, CDCS, or similar)
- Experience with building management systems (BMS) and data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools
- Knowledge of industry standards including TIA-942, BICSI, and NFPA
- Green building and sustainability certifications
- Experience with lean operations and continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong background in electrical distribution systems and backup power infrastructure
- Knowledge of cooling systems, fire suppression, and physical security systems
