About the Role

As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be instrumental in building core features and components of our transaction processing systems on distributed platforms deployed in hybrid cloud environments. This is a key individual contributor role reporting to the Head of Engineering. You'll be responsible for designing and constructing distributed data processing and analytics systems that power our global financial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and Build Distributed Systems: Design and construct distributed data processing and analytics systems that scale to handle millions of transactions daily.


• Create Comprehensive Technical Designs: Develop high-level architecture and detailed design of subsystems and features with emphasis on performant, efficient code.


• Implement Features and Solutions: Build and code features while working with developers on daily activities and contributing to code and other SDLC tasks.


• Drive Innovation Through POCs: Build proofs of concept to validate new ideas and emerging technologies before full implementation.


• Stay Ahead of Technology Trends: Continuously research and learn industry-leading/innovative technologies and solutions. Stay well-informed about enabling technologies and open-source products to build low-latency distributed systems.


• Foster a Culture of Innovation: Lead a culture of innovation and experimentation, participate in a fun and results-oriented culture, and always be prepared to try new ideas without fear of failure.


• Collaborate Across Teams: Work collaboratively with peer technology and development teams across different locations and domains.


• Mentor and Guide: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers while contributing to team knowledge sharing.

Essential Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.


• Professional Experience: 2+ years of work experience in programming design and implementation using Java or Scala.


• Data Processing Expertise: Hands-on experience in data processing using Apache Spark or similar distributed computing frameworks.


• NoSQL Database Knowledge: Experience in designing, implementing, and operating NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and Elasticsearch.


• Technical Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex distributed system issues.


• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create and deliver effective presentations to Senior Management.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following skills and experiences would be highly valued and considered a plus:

• Advanced experience in distributed data processing and analytics using Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and Apache Spark


• Experience with distributed messaging systems like Apache Kafka


• Experience building Microservices and Service Mesh architectures


• Experience with cloud platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift


• Experience with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and DevOps practices


• Experience architecting large-scale distributed data systems considering scalability, reliability, security, performance, and maintainability


• Clear understanding of various design patterns, threading, and memory models supported by the language/VM


• Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to other developers


• Experience in the financial services or payments industry
