The Role Overview
We're seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer (L5) to join our Customer Service Data Science and Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in shaping how we leverage data to deliver exceptional customer experiences. You'll collaborate closely with data engineers, software engineers, and customer service business leaders to build robust, scalable data pipelines that transform raw information into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities
- Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines using big data technologies including Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink to process medium to large-scale datasets spanning tens of millions of records.
- Data Modeling: Create adaptable data structures that can accommodate evolving source data and changing business processes, ensuring long-term maintainability and performance.
- Business Metrics Development: Transform raw data into core business metrics that accurately reflect customer service performance, member satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
- Custom Visualization Tools: Develop and work with visualization tools that surface customer service insights to business stakeholders, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner effectively with data engineers, software engineers, analysts, and customer service business owners to deliver integrated solutions that meet diverse stakeholder needs.
- Data Quality Advocacy: Champion data quality standards and implement practices that ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability across all data assets.
- Autonomous Problem-Solving: Demonstrate strong analytical aptitude to identify business problems, develop metrics frameworks, and prioritize work autonomously based on business impact.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship while maintaining high standards for code quality, documentation, and engineering best practices.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience engineering data pipelines using big data technologies on medium to large-scale data sets.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency with Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink for processing large-scale datasets efficiently.
- Programming Skills: Strong proficiency in Python or Scala with a passion for writing clean, supportable, and well-documented code.
- Data Modeling: Strong data modeling skills with the ability to design structures that remain adaptable to changes in source data or business processes.
- SQL Proficiency: Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries, optimize performance, and ensure data accuracy.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical aptitude to think through business problems, develop meaningful metrics, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with analysts, engineers, and business leaders at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in customer service, support, or contact center analytics preferred.
- Experience with real-time streaming data processing and event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of machine learning workflows and MLOps practices is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloud-native data services.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
