Position Overview

As a Senior Big Data Software Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our enterprise-level data infrastructure. You will be responsible for building robust and scalable data pipelines that enable efficient data processing, storage, and analysis across the organization. This position offers the flexibility of remote work combined with competitive compensation at $27 per hour.

You will join our Data Services division, which is a core capability within our Technology organization responsible for delivering reliable, high-quality data solutions across all business units. The Data Services team is committed to ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and accessibility for stakeholders at every level of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Big Data Software Engineer, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that directly impact our data infrastructure and business operations. Your expertise will help drive innovation and efficiency across our technology ecosystem.

  • Lead Complex Data Initiatives: Drive moderately complex projects and initiatives within technical environments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and technical standards.
  • Architect Scalable Solutions: Contribute to large-scale planning of systems architecture, designing data solutions that can scale effectively with growing business needs.
  • Development and Implementation: Design, code, test, debug, and document projects and initiatives related to technology domain, including enhancements and integrations with existing systems.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Review moderately complex technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of technologies and methodologies to develop effective solutions.
  • Issue Resolution: Resolve moderately complex problems and lead a team to meet existing client needs or identify potential new client requirements while utilizing a strong understanding of the function, methodologies, or compliance requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve project goals.
  • Team Leadership: Lead projects and serve as an escalation point, providing guidance and direction to less experienced staff members.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of technical solutions, processes, and best practices for knowledge sharing and compliance purposes.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Programming Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.
  • Big Data Technologies: Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience with Hadoop ecosystem and distributed computing frameworks.
  • Database Expertise: Minimum of 3+ years of experience working with Teradata and MongoDB database systems.
  • Cloud Platforms: Minimum of 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Version Control: Minimum of 3+ years of experience with GitHub and Bitbucket for source code management and collaboration.
  • Software Development Lifecycle: Minimum of 3+ years of experience designing, coding, testing, debugging, and reporting for projects and initiatives.
  • Programming Languages: Minimum of 3+ years of experience with Python and Unix/Shell scripting, along with proficiency in Scala, Flash, HBase, Oozie, Flume, and Kafka.
  • Automation Tools: Minimum of 3+ years of experience with Ansible for configuration management and infrastructure automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) across all organizational levels, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • ETL Development: Experience designing ETL data streams using mappings/workflows to extract data from SQL Server and Data Movement and Transformation from Oracle/Access/Excel Sheets using SQL Server SSIS.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience working as a Software Engineer or Data Engineer in the financial services or technology sectors.
