Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Data Scientist, Analytics to join our Information Research team within the Data Platform – Insights group. In this critical role, you will provide comprehensive data analysis and strategic support to our platform, management, and operational engineering teams. Your expertise will help shape how success is measured across our organization, defining the right questions to ask and scaling analytical methods and tools to support our rapidly growing business.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the vision for business analytics, design solutions architecture for data-driven business initiatives, and execute strategic projects including exploratory analysis and campaign performance reporting. You will be preparing our organization for high-quality, high-speed decision-making and will report directly to the Director of Data Science.
What You'll Do
As a key member of our analytics team, you will serve as a trusted data expert who guides stakeholders toward better decision-making through data-driven insights. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Data Guidance: Work closely with members across our Platforms and Services teams to direct them toward improved decision-making using available data assets and analytical findings.
- Insight Communication: Promote data and insights by managing communications with partners and various teams. Collaborate with colleagues to complete data projects and ensure all stakeholders can leverage insights to drive further improvements.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Maintain a client-driven focus while becoming a domain and product expert through comprehensive data analysis. Develop trust among peers and ensure teams and projects have access to the data they need to make informed decisions.
- Complex Problem Solving: Manage ambiguous issues and adapt tools to address complex queries. Identify trade-offs between speed and quality across different analytical approaches.
- Metrics Framework Development: Create analytical frameworks to measure team success by collaborating with teams to establish progress metrics, develop approaches to track data and analyze errors, measure and evaluate information to establish a common language for all partners to understand these metrics.
- Operational Efficiency: Operationalize data processes to provide partners with ad-hoc analysis, automated dashboards, and self-service reporting tools so everyone gets a fair view of the business state.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with both technical and non-technical staff members throughout the organization. Your work will impact numerous partners across the enterprise.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should bring:
- Experience: 3+ years of domain experience in a consumer web business, or in a fast-paced, high-growth product or team environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Master SQL skills and proficiency in Python or R programming languages.
- Analytical Track Record: Demonstrated experience using data to create insights and drive measurable business results.
- Analytical Skills: Familiarity with data analysis and communication around data, including time series analysis, experimentation, data visualization, and defining the KPI strategy for your business area.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain productive relationships across teams.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications would strengthen your application:
- Passion for online communities, gaming, and live streaming platforms
- Experience in Operational Excellence, defining metrics and analysis reporting
- Experience working with software development and operational event data
- Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques such as logistic regression, decision trees, and neural networks
- Experience with business intelligence tools and platforms
- Background in A/B testing and statistical experimentation
