The Technical Product Automation Specialist I provides frontline support for biotechnology instrumentation and automation solutions, assisting customers and internal teams with troubleshooting and system connectivity.
Responsibilities
- Provide local and international assistance to customers, Nova-trained Field Service Specialists, and Nova-trained Field Sales Representatives via phone, email, and remote e-meeting sessions
- Troubleshoot instrument operation, software configuration, and connectivity issues
- Document all customer interactions, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions within the company Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
- Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of system connectivity for:
- Nova automation servers used for Active Directory and Data transmission
- Nova OPC DA/UA servers
- 3rd party Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Client servers and external automation devices
- Support networking configuration including IP addressing, port configuration, and firewall coordination
- Collaborate with customer IT teams, automation groups, and third-party vendors whose products interface or integrate with Nova systems to ensure successful system integration and reliable communication between devices
- Escalate complex software or automation issues to senior specialists or R&D engineering teams
- Collaborate with software development teams to support the management and ongoing development of the Nova OPC UA and DA Server
- Assist in validation testing and verification activities for the Nova OPC Server and product line software
- Contribute to internal documentation and knowledge base development
- Provide training on the Biotechnology product lines, from introductory to advanced levels, for Technical Product Specialists, Field Service Specialists, Field Sales Representatives, and other relevant teams as needed
- Occasionally travel to customer sites for implementation or advanced troubleshooting support
Skills
- Basic understanding of laboratory instrumentation and clinical or biotechnology analyzer operation
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Open Platform Communication (OPC) data workflows
- Understanding of automation device communication and system integration concepts
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals (IP addressing, ports, and basic connectivity troubleshooting)
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, for documentation, reporting, and data analysis
- Ability to manage multiple technical cases simultaneously and prioritize effectively
- Experience with OPC DA/UA connectivity
- Familiarity with automation platforms such as DeltaV, Kepware, OPCExpert, or UAExpert
- Experience working with SQL data or Excel-based datasets
- Basic scripting or programming experience (Python, C++, or XML)
- Exposure to regulated or GMP environments
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biology, or related technical discipline
- 1–3 years of experience in a clinical, biotechnology, research, or laboratory automation environment
