Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Manager Self Service Engineering to lead our product engineering team in New York. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technical leader who thrives on building innovative solutions and developing high-performing teams. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of self-service products from inception through retirement, ensuring that our engineering excellence translates into tangible business value.

As the Senior Manager Self Service Engineering at arenaflex, you will serve as the primary technical and strategic leader for all products within your assigned area of responsibility. You will own the end-to-end product lifecycle, working closely with product management, marketing, and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that exceed customer expectations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, security, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for:


  • Product Portfolio Management: Lead and manage an assigned suite of products from ideation and development through deployment, optimization, and eventual retirement. Ensure each product meets its strategic objectives and delivers measurable value to the organization.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Lead Engineers, Senior Engineers, and technical staff. Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning while ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality products.
  • Engineering Excellence: Establish and promote a workplace focused on engineering excellence to attract, develop, and energize a culture of technical innovation. Implement best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes across your team.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with product management and marketing teams to develop compelling product visions and roadmaps. Translate business requirements into technical specifications and ensure alignment between engineering efforts and business objectives.
  • Technology Roadmap Development: Develop comprehensive technology roadmaps for products within your responsibility area. Ensure all solutions are built with security, reliability, and scalability as foundational principles.
  • Policy & Standards Development: Drive the development of policies, standards, and guidelines for building and supporting IT products. Establish architectural frameworks, design patterns, and integration strategies that guide software development efforts.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Responsible for developing, maintaining, and reporting on financial and resource plans for your area of responsibility. Optimize budget allocation and ensure efficient utilization of team resources.
  • Operational Support Leadership: Serve as the escalation point for operational support for assigned portfolio applications, with exposure to 24/7 operations. Ensure timely resolution of critical issues and maintain high availability of production systems.
  • Environment Management: Oversee production and non-production environments through rigorous change control management. Implement robust deployment pipelines and ensure smooth transitions between development, staging, and production environments.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure all work practices align with audit, security, and regulatory requirements. Maintain compliance with industry standards and organizational policies related to information security and data protection.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with other Engineering Managers to ensure alignment across teams and drive organizational efficiencies. Share best practices and contribute to the overall improvement of engineering processes.
  • Talent Development: Play a critical role in driving and mentoring both direct reports and indirect team members to support engagement, growth, and advancement. Contribute to the development of succession plans for the IT department.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; OR demonstrated ability to perform the essential job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Hands-on technical experience with modern software development technologies including Java, AngularJS, and NodeJS. You should be comfortable with code review, architectural discussions, and providing technical guidance to your team.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing platforms – specifically Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Amazon Web Services (AWS). Experience with cloud-native architectures, containerization, and DevOps practices is highly valued.
  • Willingness to travel moderately (up to 35% overnight travel). You must be able to travel within the United States as needed to support various business requirements, including team meetings, client visits, and partner engagements.
  • Valid travel documents with the ability to travel throughout the United States without restrictions.
  • Flexibility to work variable hours and be available for emergency response without prior notice. The nature of this role requires responsiveness to critical issues that may arise outside of standard business hours.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug assessment as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position requires proof of eligibility to work in the US; please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

While the following are not required, they will significantly enhance your candidacy:


  • Previous experience managing budgets and financial planning for engineering teams or technology departments.
  • Proven track record of managing full-scale projects or initiatives, including the development and presentation of proposals to senior leadership. Experience with project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall) is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business capabilities and a thorough understanding of business operations, objectives, and strategies. The ability to align technology initiatives with broader business goals is essential.
  • Familiarity with arenaflex's IT disciplines and interdependencies, understanding how various technology domains influence and drive organizational strategy.
  • Experience with enterprise-level system integrations and familiarity with API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Strong background in customer-facing applications and self-service platforms, preferably in the airline, travel, or hospitality industries.
