Position Overview: Data Scientist - Applied Product Group

Are you passionate about data-driven decision-making and want to be at the forefront of AI product development? We're looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our Applied Product team at arenaflex. This is a unique opportunity to help establish the data-driven product development culture that will define the next generation of AI-powered consumer experiences.

As an early member of our Data Scientist team in the Applied Product group, you will play a pivotal role in defining how we measure success, conduct experiments, and leverage data to drive product innovation. You'll be instrumental in building our first party offerings and establishing the foundational metrics and dashboards that the entire organization will rely on to answer critical product questions.

This position is based at our San Francisco headquarters, and we offer comprehensive relocation assistance to help new team members make a smooth transition to joining our innovative work environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with meaningful responsibilities that directly impact our product strategy and overall success:

Strategic Partnership with Product Teams: Collaborate closely with the product development team as a trusted partner, uncovering innovative ways to enhance our products and drive sustainable growth across all offerings.

Experimental Design & Analysis: Define, design, and interpret A/B tests that provide clear answers to fundamental questions about the impact of model improvements and user experience changes on our products.

Metrics Development: Establish a robust data-driven product development culture by leading the definition, tracking, and operationalization of feature-level, product-level, and organization-level metrics that matter most.

Self-Serve Analytics Infrastructure: Create and promote dashboards, reports, and analytical tools that enable teams across the company to answer product-related questions independently and efficiently.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with product managers, engineers, designers, and executives to translate data insights into actionable product recommendations.

Data Quality & Integrity: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of data pipelines and reporting systems that support organizational decision-making.

Thought Leadership: Bring expertise beyond traditional statistical significance testing, applying sophisticated analytical frameworks to solve ambiguous problems.

Essential Qualifications

We're seeking candidates who bring a proven track record of quantitative analysis in dynamic, fast-paced environments:

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in a quantitative role exploring highly ambiguous conditions, preferably as a founding data scientist or product analyst at a hyper-growth technology company or research organization.

Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience designing, proposing, and running rigorous experiments with clear insights and actionable product recommendations using SQL and Python or similar programming languages.

Metrics Expertise: Proven ability to define, implement, and operationalize new feature and product-level metrics from scratch, establishing reliable measurement frameworks.

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related discipline is required; advanced degrees are highly valued.

Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with product managers, engineers, and executives at all levels of the organization.

Analytical Depth: Strong foundation in statistical analysis with key insights beyond the paradigm of traditional significance testing.

Preferred Qualifications

AI/NLP Experience: Demonstrated related experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), large language models, or generative AI technologies.

Technical Versatility: Strong programming background with the ability to run simulations and model various scenarios to support product decisions.
