About This Role
As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you'll be responsible for building core components and features of our transaction processing systems on distributed platforms deployed in hybrid cloud environments. This is an individual contributor role that reports directly to our Head of Engineering, giving you autonomy to make key technical decisions while being supported by a team of passionate experts.

Key Responsibilities
As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a crucial role in designing and building our next-generation data infrastructure. Here's what you can expect to work on:
- Design and Build Distributed Data Processing Systems: You'll be responsible for designing and constructing distributed data processing and analytical systems that can handle massive scale and deliver real-time insights.
- Architectural Development: Create both high-level architecture and detailed design of subsystems and features, with emphasis on performant, scalable, and maintainable code.
- Feature Development: Build and code features while working with developers on daily activities and assisting in code reviews and other SDLC tasks.
- Proof of Concept Development: Build POCs to validate new concepts and emerging technologies before full implementation.
- Technology Innovation: Continuously adopt and learn industry-leading/innovative technologies and solutions. Be keen on leveraging enabling technologies and open-source products to build low-latency distributed systems.
- Cultural Leadership: Lead a culture of innovation and experimentation, participate in a fun and result-oriented culture, and always be ready to try new ideas without fear of failure.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with peer technology and product teams across different locations to deliver integrated solutions.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all built systems and processes.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need to bring a solid foundation in data engineering principles and hands-on experience with modern data technologies:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience in data processing using Apache Spark or similar distributed computing frameworks.
- Knowledge in designing, implementing, and operating NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or Elasticsearch.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems fundamentals.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Solid programming skills in at least one language such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts and services.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
If you have any of the following experiences, you'll be ahead of the curve:
- Experience in distributed data processing and analytics using Apache Spark, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch.
- Experience with distributed messaging systems like Apache Kafka.
- Experience in building Microservices and Service Mesh architectures (such as Istio or Linkerd).
- Experience with cloud platforms like Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Experience with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and DevOps practices.
- Experience in architecting large-scale distributed data systems considering scalability, reliability, security, performance, and observability.
- Clear understanding of various design patterns, threading, and memory models supported by the language/VM.
- Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create and deliver effective presentations to Senior Leadership.
