We are currently seeking a talented and dedicated Media Engineer II to join our team on the night shift, supporting our critical production, broadcast, and content distribution operations. Position Overview

As a Media Engineer II at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in transforming how we create, produce, and distribute content globally while ensuring the highest levels of quality, efficiency, and flexibility. This position operates on a night shift schedule from 9PM to 5AM and is ideal for engineers with hands-on experience in sustainment and design/build activities related to the creation, production, and distribution of linear or digital video/audio content.

Media Engineers at arenaflex find themselves at the intersection of hardware and software-based technology, requiring a comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of the technology that drives the generation, monetization, and distribution of all forms of consumer-facing video and audio content. Your responsibilities will encompass various systems including Playout Technology, Studios, Production Control Rooms, Remote Production, Post-Production, Engagement/Delivery Systems, Networking, Cloud Processing, Production Software, and Virtual Environments.

In this role, you will be primarily focused on the sustainability of our existing technology infrastructure. You will serve as the second tier in our layered sustainment model, handling incidents escalated from our shared operations team (Level 1) and addressing complex technical challenges. As you continue to learn the nuances of arenaflex's technology and apply your education and engineering experience, you will also contribute to system integration projects, documentation, and preventive engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities


  • Incident Response and Resolution: Respond to and resolve issues affecting production, broadcast, and content distribution across multiple DEE networks, including system outages, breakdowns, and related technical issues. Conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to resolve common, specialized, and complex problems.
  • System Monitoring and Maintenance: Utilize system health and performance monitoring software and platforms to investigate and participate in fixing system issues and failures. Participate in system maintenance, install software patches, updates, and resolve service issues. Investigate system issues as they relate to these services.
  • Signal Analysis: Examine and troubleshoot internet-based audio/video signals in traditional SDI and IP 2110 essence stream routing environments. Investigate and explore cloud platforms as required for enhanced troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Vendor Management: Manage third-party service providers by enforcing the agreed-upon scope of services within various support agreements, including full-time, independent, partnership organizations, maintenance providers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Team Leadership: Select, train, motivate, and evaluate technical staff. Provide or direct staff training, work with employees to address deficiencies, and implement disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Resource Management: Determine and secure equipment, supplies, and materials for media technology systems within budget guidelines. Obtain and maintain equipment and supplies for ongoing operations.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop long-range plans for future media technology needs, including capital improvements, to enhance production and distribution capabilities.
  • Policy Development: Aid in the development and execution of policies and procedures regarding technology operations with a focus on increasing the integration of all assets to meet business, marketing, and entertainment goals.
  • Operational Support: Provide operational support for all types of movements related to operating, maintaining, and programming sound and video production/distribution systems across the enterprise and other associated properties.
  • System Upgrades: Perform upgrades to system hardware and software workflows under the supervision of a more experienced engineer or manager.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform and schedule preventive maintenance on all broadcast systems and equipment, including distribution systems, switchers, consoles, playout servers, cameras, robotics, electromechanical equipment, automation systems, and radio facilities to ensure optimal transmission performance.
  • Documentation: Review, maintain, and contribute to system/workflow documentation to ensure accurate technical records are maintained.
  • Training and Development: Participate in training and development objectives. Conduct peer training and development sessions to share knowledge across the team.

Required Qualifications


  • Experience: Three or more years of past and relevant experience ensuring efficient sustainment, uptime, and overall security of the technical environments of live media production and distribution environments.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable major, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven troubleshooting and supporting experience in at least one of the following areas:

    • IP-based broadcast equipment including switches, switchers, audio boards, signal processors, encoder/decoder, video scalers, playback systems, and related equipment

    • Studio technology including video walls, cameras, VR set technology, image processing systems, touch screens, lighting, and similar systems

    • File-based workflows such as digital Media Asset Management systems (Cloud-based or On-Premise Network-based) including storage, compute, encode, and distribution

    • Production control systems such as Imagine Communications or Grass Valley automation systems, Avid, Adobe, Viz, Dalet, Riedel communications, Lawo, Calrec, Evertz, Ross, and others

    • Transmission systems including RF (Radio Frequency), Satellite Distribution, Fiber Distribution, and related technologies


  • Cloud Experience: Proven history of troubleshooting and sustainment knowledge of AWS infrastructure and other cloud-based technologies including S3/Ice storage and cloud compute (EC2) services.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work on elevated structures and building rooftops, operate aerial lift platforms, and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Technical Drawing Skills: Ability to create, read, and interpret AutoCAD and other technical drawing/documentation tools.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge and experience in on-premises and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms and current technological offerings
  • Knowledge and experience with SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments
  • Knowledge and experience with compression techniques such as MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS
  • Knowledge and experience with Evertz software control systems, including frame control through Vista Link or Magnum, EQX/EXE switches, and their monitoring software
  • Knowledge and experience with Nielsen (NACAT), VANC equipment, Direct Acoustics, and other related systems
  • Knowledge and experience with hosted receiver decoders IRDs, hub devices, edge devices, timing of video and audio systems, and audio/video media file formats
