Position Overview

As a Long-Term Substitute Teacher at arenaflex, you will assume responsibility for teaching High School English with a focus on British Literature. This full-time position requires a dedicated educator who can seamlessly integrate into our academic community and deliver high-quality instruction to our students. The assignment is expected to begin immediately and continue through the end of the Fall 2023 semester, with the potential for extension based on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Long-Term Substitute Teacher at arenaflex, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Student Assessment: Evaluate student progress through quizzes, tests, essays, projects, and other assessments. Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.

  • Technology Integration: Utilize our 1:1 tablet program to enhance student learning. Incorporate educational technology tools and digital resources into lesson delivery and student activities.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with department colleagues to coordinate curriculum, share best practices, and participate in professional learning communities.

  • Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with students, parents, and administrators regarding student progress, classroom activities, and any concerns.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends and methodologies.

  • Academic Support: Provide additional support and resources to students who may be struggling, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:


  • Education: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

  • Teaching Experience: Prior experience teaching at the high school level is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with adolescent development and the unique challenges and opportunities of teaching high school students.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of British Literature, including major authors, works, literary movements, and analytical approaches. Ability to teach writing, grammar, and composition in addition to literature.

  • Classroom Management: Demonstrated ability to create and maintain an effective learning environment with positive student relationships and appropriate behavioral management strategies.

  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable integrating technology into classroom instruction. Experience with educational software, learning management systems, and digital communication tools is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

While the following qualifications are not required, they will be considered a significant advantage:


  • Advanced Degree: A master's degree in English, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.

  • Teaching Certification: Possession of a valid teaching credential or certification in Secondary English Education.

  • Catholic School Experience: Prior teaching experience in a Catholic educational setting is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Catholic traditions, values, and the Marianist educational philosophy is highly desirable.

  • Specialized Training: Additional training or professional development in areas such as differentiated instruction, trauma-informed teaching, or English Language Learner (ELL) support.

  • Curriculum Development: Experience developing or adapting curriculum to meet diverse student needs and align with educational standards.
