Stewart Title is a leading provider of residential and commercial title insurance. They are seeking a Legal Assistant / Law Clerk - Claims Associate to review tax, water, and common expense claims for insureds/claimants, ensuring compliance with insuring provisions and preparing necessary documentation.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing tax, water and common expense claims in accordance with Insuring provisions to determine whether claim is covered
- Performing tax and water calculations
- Preparing cheque requisitions for covered claims and forwarding payments to Insured/municipalities
- Requesting additional documentation in relation to all the inquiries set forth above
- Contacting Insured/law firms/municipalities to obtain required information and communicate results of the investigation
- Handling general claim inquiry calls
- Sending out follow up status request on pending files in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned or required
Skills
- Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma
- 1-3 years relevant experience in real estate an asset
- Knowledge of accounting practices
- Full understanding of closing procedures including Statement of Adjustments
- Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a team
- Resourceful in nature
- Good computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel is required
