Position Overview
We are looking for an Information Researcher - Real-World Evidence (RWE) who will be responsible for generating Real-World Evidence through advanced research and innovative methodologies in the clinical trials space. The ideal candidate will be a fundamental part of our Scientific Issues team, working to influence internal and external decision-making through the use of innovative data science and technology.
In this role, you will lead sophisticated data analysis projects to help address critical business questions facing our pharmaceutical partners. This position reports to the Chief of Clinical Data Science and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that directly impacts patient care and treatment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
As an RWE Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with a variety of impactful responsibilities that include:
- Data Mining and Preparation: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms. You will analyze and interpret results, helping to shape the overall analysis strategy for our research initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. Potential projects include analysis of unmet needs, safety and efficacy of treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns and healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
- Data Management: Clean, transform, and store data into a coordinated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization. You will ensure data integrity and accessibility across the organization.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/Real-World Data (RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes. You will apply advanced statistical methods to uncover patterns and correlations that inform clinical decision-making.
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analysis, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytics and tools to address scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical companies.
- Research Design: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations. You will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of analytical excellence.
- Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for internal and external use, effectively communicating complex findings to diverse stakeholders.
- Vendor Assessment: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, driving RWD quality assessments to inform investment decisions.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Public Health, or a related quantitative discipline is required.
- Programming Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience with programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL is essential. Proficiency in at least one of these languages is required to perform advanced data manipulation and analysis.
- Statistical Methodology: Experience in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical studies in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. This includes familiarity with study design, confounding control, and bias mitigation strategies.
- Statistical Techniques: Knowledge of common statistical testing methods including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis. You should be comfortable applying these techniques to real-world healthcare datasets.
- Large Data Handling: Experience processing large datasets from multiple data sources. You should be comfortable working with big data technologies and understanding data pipeline architectures.
- Data Privacy Compliance: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and other privacy requirements. A strong understanding of data governance and compliance is essential.
- Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI visualization tools. Experience creating compelling data visualizations and interactive dashboards is highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications would give candidates a competitive edge:
- Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases. Familiarity with electronic health record systems and healthcare data workflows is highly desirable.
- Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies, including ICD-9/10 and ReadCode. Understanding of HL7, FHIR, and other healthcare interoperability standards is a plus.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials, including ISO standards, MDD/MDR, and CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) requirements.
- Alternative Data Sources: Experience with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, especially those enabled by technology platforms and/or solutions. This includes experience with wearable devices, patient-generated health data, and digital health technologies.
- Advanced Methodologies: Experience with trial design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data analysis, and computational statistics. Familiarity with adaptive trial designs and innovative statistical approaches is valued.
- Machine Learning Proficiency: Understanding of statistics and machine learning techniques, with the ability to continuously self-learn both technical and non-technical skills. A growth mindset and passion for staying current with emerging methodologies is essential.
