The YouTube Business Strategy and Operations group is responsible for driving all go-to-market capabilities for the YouTube Business Organization, including strategy and business operations, analytics and data science, partnership enablement, and product activation. Our team is responsible for shaping go-to-market priorities to accelerate growth and support the business accordingly, improving capabilities and competencies to support execution of business priorities, driving performance across business operations, and building great go-to-market infrastructure including data, reports, and dashboards. This group combines deep strategic, operational, and problem-solving capabilities with practical experience of how to get things done and drive change across a global organization.

About the Role

As a Business Data Scientist at the Impact Measurement group, you will be tasked with supporting YouTube to make better decisions. Specifically, your job will be to speak on data's behalf and assist decision-makers in becoming more data-driven. You will translate vague questions into concrete business questions, design research to answer those questions, and communicate findings to non-technical audiences while being transparent about uncertainty and the assumptions used in your analysis.

This role offers the exciting opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and impactful problems in the technology industry today. You'll collaborate with cross-functional partners across product, engineering, marketing, and executive leadership to drive strategic initiatives that affect how YouTube serves its global community.

Key Responsibilities


  • Design and Lead Research: Design and lead informal research with the clear goal of answering complex business questions. You'll develop research frameworks, define methodologies, and ensure analytical rigor in all your work.

  • Present Actionable Insights: Present and communicate actionable insights and recommendations to executives, business leaders, and cross-functional partners. Translate complex statistical findings into clear, compelling narratives that drive decision-making.

  • Peer Review and Collaboration: Serve as a peer-reviewer and representative for causal research designed by other teams. Foster a culture of analytical excellence and knowledge sharing across the organization.

  • Stay Current with Industry Advances: Stay updated with advances in the causal inference literature and data science community. Develop and implement new techniques when appropriate to improve our analytical capabilities.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand their needs and provide data-driven solutions that align with business objectives.

  • Methodology Development: Contribute to building reusable analytical frameworks, templates, and best practices that can be applied across different business contexts.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience with articulating business and product questions, and pulling data from datasets using SQL and statistical tools such as R, SAS, Stata, MATLAB, or Python.

  • Internship or professional experience with data analysis, including the ability to clean, transform, and analyze large datasets.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical findings to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Experience with statistical modeling and hypothesis testing.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with Bayesian hierarchical models, Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART), Bayesian Causal Forest (BCF), Gaussian Processes, and Synthetic Control techniques.

  • Experience designing and analyzing randomized controlled trials (A/B tests) in industry or research settings.

  • Experience designing and analyzing causal research using observational data, including difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, and instrumental variable approaches.

  • Experience with advanced statistical data analysis including linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling techniques.

  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their application to business problems.

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and big data technologies.

  • Published research or contributions to open-source projects in statistics, causal inference, or machine learning.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

arenaflex offers competitive compensation packages that reflect the value we place on top talent. The US base salary range for this full-time role is $124,000-$182,000 plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by position, level, and location, and we ensure fair and transparent compensation practices.
