Position Overview: Cloud Data Engineer

We are seeking a talented and experienced Cloud Data Engineer to join our team in Austin, Texas. In this role, you will guide clients on how to ingest, store, process, analyze, and visualize data on the arenaflex Cloud Platform. You will manage data migration and transformation projects, working with government agencies, universities, and other public sector clients to design large-scale data processing systems, develop optimized data pipelines, and troubleshoot potential platform issues. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Product Management and Product Engineering to build and continually drive excellence in our products.

This position requires up to 15% travel to client sites to deploy solutions and deliver workshops to educate and enable clients as needed. You will also utilize video conferencing for on-site meetings, technical reviews, and delivery activities. As a trusted technical advisor, you will tackle complex big data challenges and create best-practice recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations tailored to different levels of business and technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cloud Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as a trusted technical advisor to clients and solving complex big data challenges with innovative solutions
  • Designing and implementing large-scale data processing systems optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Developing robust data pipelines that enable efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage across cloud environments
  • Creating and delivering best practice recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations
  • Presenting technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise, from C-suite executives to engineering teams
  • Working with government, educational, and public sector clients to understand their unique data challenges and provide tailored solutions
  • Collaborating with Product Management and Product Engineering teams to drive product improvements and innovations
  • Conducting technical workshops and training sessions for clients to maximize their platform utilization
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues related to data processing and platform performance
  • Staying current with emerging technologies and best practices in big data, cloud architecture, and data engineering

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in data processing programming with technologies such as Hadoop, Flash, Pig, or Hive
  • Hands-on experience with data processing algorithms including MapReduce and Flume
  • Strong coding skills in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, C++, or Python
  • An active US Government Top Secret/SCI Clearance (this is a mandatory requirement for this position)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a passion for tackling challenging technical problems
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with data warehouses, including data warehouse technical models, system components, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytical tools and environments
  • Experience with big data, data retrieval, data mining, or machine learning applications
  • Experience building multi-level high-availability applications with modern web technologies such as NoSQL, MongoDB, SparkML, or TensorFlow
  • Experience architecting, developing software, or web-scale production-grade big data solutions in virtualized environments
  • Experience managing client-facing projects, investigating clients' technical issues, and working with engineering, sales, services, and clients
  • Knowledge of cloud platform services and infrastructure
  • Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques
