This position is open for immediate hire, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026.<br><br> </div><div>We seek a scholar-practitioner with demonstrated ministry experience and a strong commitment to forming leaders for transformative service to the Church and the wider world. The successful candidate will teach in areas such as Black Church studies, Christian spirituality, and/or practical theology while overseeing and advancing the Field Education program.<br><br> </div><div>This role is central to helping students integrate theological education with lived ministerial practice, supporting vocational discernment, and preparing students for leadership across diverse ministry contexts.<br><br> </div><div> <strong>Key Responsibilities:<br></strong><br> </div><div> <strong>Teaching & Academic Engagement<br></strong><br> </div><ul> <li> Teach courses in Practical Theology, Black Church studies, Christian spirituality, and/or related disciplines </li> <li> Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that reflects inclusive and justice-oriented pedagogies </li> <li> Contribute to curriculum development and academic innovation </li> </ul><div> <strong>Field Education Leadership<br></strong><br> </div><ul> <li> Direct and oversee the Field Education program </li> <li> Cultivate and maintain partnerships with ministry sites and community organizations </li> <li> Guide students in field placements and supervise their experiential learning </li> <li> Support students in integrating classroom learning with ministry practice </li> </ul><div> <strong>Student Formation & Mentorship<br></strong><br> </div><ul> <li> Advise and mentor students in vocational discernment and ministerial identity formation </li> <li> Support students navigating denominational processes including candidacy, licensing, and ordination </li> <li> Provide pastoral guidance to students from a variety of denominational and ecclesial traditions </li> </ul><div> <strong>Institutional Service & Leadership<br></strong><br> </div><ul> <li> Participate actively in faculty governance and seminary committees </li> <li> Contribute to institutional initiatives, including Continuing Education and community engagement </li> <li> Support the mission and strategic priorities of the Seminary </li> </ul><div> <strong>Minimum Qualifications:<br></strong><br> </div><ul> <li> Ph.D. or D.Min. in Practical Theology, Christian Spirituality, Black Church Studies, or a closely related field (ABD candidates near completion will be considered) </li> <li> Demonstrated experience in ministry and theological education </li> <li> Ability to teach effectively in one or more of the specified disciplines </li> <li> Commitment to justice-oriented, inclusive theological education </li> </ul><div> <strong>Preferred Qualifications:<br></strong><br> </div><ul> <li> Experience within the United Methodist Church (UMC), AME, CME, or related Wesleyan traditions </li> <li> Demonstrated ability to guide students through ordination processes (candidacy, licensing, commissioning) </li> <li> Experience mentoring diverse student populations </li> <li> Experience developing or leading field education or experiential learning programs</li> </ul><div>Interested applicants should submit the following:<br><br> </div><ol> <li> Cover Letter </li> <li> Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) </li> <li> Three References (academic and professional – contact information only) </li> <li> Teaching Statement (maximum 500 words) <ul><li> Describe your teaching philosophy and how your experiences have prepared you to support a diverse population of learners</li></ul> </li> </ol> </div> <p>Flexible work from home options available.</p>
