Merchants Insurance Group is a leading Property and Casualty Insurer in the Northeast, seeking an Associate Underwriter for their Corporate Central Operations team in Buffalo, New York. The role focuses on developing knowledge in Commercial Lines Underwriting and Insurance Operations while contributing to the team's success through collaboration with agents and other team members.
Responsibilities
- Develop knowledge of Commercial Lines Underwriting. This includes Underwriting guidelines, product coverages, pricing tools, state regulatory requirements, rating and processing systems, etc
- Complete formal industry training including Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS), AU, AINS and other AICPCU courses as directed by management in alignment with career development opportunities
- Cultivating solid relationships with Agents and internal staff while working towards achieving the most optimal outcomes for Merchants and our policyholders
- Reviews accounts beyond individual authority with the Regional Underwriting Manager or Supervisor and recommends a course of action
- Achieve commercial lines regional production goals and loss ratio objectives for assigned territory
Skills
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- Up to 3 years Property and Casualty insurance experience
- Some knowledge and training in underwriting commercial lines accounts
- Organizational, time management and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Computer experience including Microsoft Word experience
- Insurance related course work preferred
- ImageRight knowledge is a plus
