Overview:

The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for a variety of tasks including organizing, managing and evaluating patients’ electronic health record. The Medical Records Specialist will primarily be requesting patient records as well as disclosing patient records in compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule, ensuring signed authorizations are in patient charts, processing record requests as well as scanning, routing and filing documents within the electronic health record.  The Medical Records Specialist will also act as a backup scheduler when the need arises as well as work directly with other staff. In addition, this position will perform a variety of other record keeping and clerical duties in support of services provided in a clinical setting.

Communication Skills Must be able to communicate in both written and verbal form

 

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine documentation and correspondence.



Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills Intermediate computer skills are essential in use of an electronic medical record.

 

Other Skills and Abilities Must be detail oriented, have ability to multi-task and possess great interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS



Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary, but are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

This position is considered a remote position when duties are performed within the scope of this job description. If performing duties outside of the essential duties of this job description, the employee may request an alternative accommodation from their director to best meet the needs of the employee for the terms of the irregular duties. 

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional clinic environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
