The Role: Senior Ocean Logistics Specialist
As a Senior Ocean Logistics Specialist at arenaflex, you will serve as a key contributor to our ocean freight division, working closely with our Managing Director of Ocean to drive strategic initiatives that expand our ocean volumes, enhance our product offerings, and strengthen our market position. This is a high-impact role that requires a unique blend of analytical prowess, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills.
You will be responsible for supporting carrier development efforts, analyzing carrier performance metrics, developing pricing strategies, and serving as an ocean subject matter expert for both internal stakeholders and external partners. Your expertise will help us optimize routings, improve service quality, and ensure that arenaflex remains competitive in the global ocean freight marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrier Development & Management: Identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with new and existing ocean carriers to expand our carrier network and ensure competitive capacity options. Work closely with carrier representatives to negotiate favorable terms, service agreements, and capacity commitments that align with arenaflex's business objectives.
- Pricing Strategy Implementation: Assist in developing and implementing pricing programs that maximize competitiveness while protecting profit margins. Review volume targets, analyze market conditions, and collaborate with the Transport Leadership Team to develop pricing strategies that drive growth and yield enhancement.
- Carrier Performance Analysis: Conduct comprehensive analysis of carrier service metrics, including on-time performance, transit times, cargo handling, and reliability. Identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement, and communicate findings to senior leadership and operational teams.
- Routing Optimization: Analyze routing options and develop strategies to optimize network efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery. Work with global trade lane teams to ensure seamless coordination across all corridors and regions.
- Ocean Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the go-to expert for ocean freight matters, providing guidance and support to sales, operations, and other internal teams. Educate stakeholders on market trends, competitive dynamics, and best practices in ocean logistics.
- Sales & Operations Support: Partner with the sales team to develop account strategies that drive revenue growth and deepen customer relationships. Provide operational support to ensure flawless execution of ocean shipments and resolve any service issues that may arise.
- Strategic Communication: Communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to outline strategies, share market intelligence, and align on objectives. Collaborate with the Managing Director of Ocean, global trade lane teams, sales, and operations to ensure unified execution of our ocean strategy.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Work closely with product, sales, and operations teams to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Identify and mitigate risks that could impact service quality or company reputation.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor market conditions, competitor activities, and industry trends to inform strategic decision-making. Provide actionable insights that help arenaflex stay ahead of market developments and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in ocean freight, logistics, or supply chain management, with a demonstrated understanding of carrier operations, pricing structures, and trade lane dynamics.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in data analysis, Excel, and other analytical tools. Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, including senior leadership, carriers, and customers.
- Relationship-Building: Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including carriers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and develop plans that align with broader business objectives while considering market dynamics, competitive landscape, and customer needs.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA, Master's in Supply Chain, or related field) is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working with global carriers and understanding of carrier contracts, service agreements, and capacity management.
- Familiarity with ocean freight pricing models, tariff structures, and market rate dynamics.
- Knowledge of customs regulations, documentation requirements, and international trade compliance.
- Experience in customer-facing roles with a focus on account development and yield management.
- Certifications in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CIFFA, CSCMP, APICS) are considered an asset.
- Bilingual capabilities or proficiency in multiple languages is beneficial for global roles.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $57,836.00 - $131,686.00. The actual starting salary will be determined based on factors including your specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees in similar roles.
