About SynapseMX
At SynapseMX, we’re bridging the gap between deep aviation expertise and Silicon Valley innovation. We build the quality assurance backbone for complex operational domains where "getting it right" is mission-critical. Our software is used by aircraft maintenance teams to replace paper-driven, fragmented QA processes with a single authoritative digital platform. We are a company built by airline maintenance experts - our software has been used by multiple air carriers around the world, and we’re preparing for deployment across U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard units.
Our flagship platform, TIMS, is an advanced, real-time coordination platform designed to enhance aircraft readiness at both strategic and operational levels. By unifying inspection oversight and work centers into a single, holistic interface, we enable smarter, faster decision-making that improves aircraft availability.
If you want to solve real-world problems, you belong here.
We are lean, fast, and focused. We don’t have layers of middle management, and we don’t move at a "corporate" pace. At the same time, we have DoD contracts that require a structured delivery - which means contractually-defined (but reasonable) schedules, (moderate) time tracking, and a final product that is reviewed and accepted by the U.S. Air Force. Joining us means:
- Zero Red Tape: You report to the CEO and own your documentation portfolio.
- Peer Accountability: In a team of 12, your writing, your logic, and your work ethic are visible. We don't glorify long hours, but we expect focused time on the work.
- Embedded, Not Siloed: You’ll work directly alongside engineers and product, not outside the tent. You’ll attend design reviews, sprint planning/retrospectives, and be part of the same working sessions that the team is already having with customers.
The Challenge: Documenting the Future of Aviation Ops
This is not a role where you polish marketing copy and translate engineer-speak after the fact. From day one, you will own the docs that inspection teams, government reviewers, and integration partners depend on. You’ll be responsible for:
- End-User Documentation: Help content, user guides, and training materials for maintainers, quality assurance inspectors, and leadership - written in the language of the flightline, not the language of the stack.
- API & Integration Docs: Reference documentation, integration guides, and sample flows for the partners building against our platform.
- Release Notes & Changelogs: Clear, useful notes that tell customers what changed and why it matters - not a dump of PR or Linear ticket titles.
- Internal Technical Docs: Collaborate with engineering for ADRs, runbooks, and onboarding material that keep a small team moving fast without losing institutional knowledge.
Is this you?
- Your Background: 4+ years of technical writing experience in SaaS, developer tools, or regulated industries; OR 6+ years writing technical content in lieu of a formal writing background (engineers, analysts, and military technical writers who’ve made the jump are explicitly encouraged to apply). We care about what you’ve shipped and how you think, not the path you took to get here.
- You Ship: You have a track record of owning documentation from kickoff to publication, and you take pride in docs that people actually use.
- You Interview Well: You can sit down with an engineer, a maintainer, or a government reviewer, ask the right questions, and walk away with enough to write something that’s correct and clear.
- You Value “Operational Weight”: You’d rather write the guide an inspector pulls up on a phone at 2am than the whitepaper nobody reads. The context of the work matters to you.
- You Thrive in Ambiguity: You can take the requirements scope, an in-development feature, and a customer call, and turn them into a coherent piece of documentation with the right structure and scope.
- You’re a Team Player: You recognize that good docs are built by pairing with engineers, designers, and customers - not by waiting for a perfect spec to land in your inbox.
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Preferred Skills
- Experience authoring API reference documentation against OpenAPI/Swagger specs, using tools like Redoc, Stoplight, or similar
- Docs-as-code fluency - Git, Markdown, and at least one static site generator (Docusaurus, MkDocs, Antora, Hugo)
- Experience documenting products for end user, not just developers - prior work in aviation, defense, manufacturing, medical devices, or industrial software is a bonus
- Familiarity with diagramming and visual communication (Mermaid, Lucidchart, Figma for design handoffs)
- Interest in aerospace, aviation, or defense - no prior experience required, but genuine curiosity about the domain goes a long way
- Comfort operating in regulated software environments (SOC 2, HIPAA) - CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, RMF, or FedRAMP exposure is a plus
