We are seeking a Major Gifts Officer, who will serve in a critical role to increase the support for our organization in the Midwest & Mountain region (AZ, UT, NM, CO, KS, NE, ND, SD, IA, MN). This position is critical for our general operations, working with current and prospective supporters, and encouraging adult support and participation in the pro-life movement.

This region has a lot of potential, but at the onset this position will be responsible for managing and qualifying a portfolio of 200-300 donors made up of current major donors ($5,000+), mid-level donors ($1,000-$4,999), and major gift prospects (<$1,000).

You will be responsible for developing and cultivating meaningful relationships with prospective and current supporters on your caseload through meetings, events, phone calls, emails, and handwritten thank-you notes.

Location: Remote with an emphasis on a regional caseload in the Midwest & Mountain region. This position is based in either Denver, Colorado or Phoenix, Arizona.

Responsibilities

Manage a Supporter Caseload

Find new prospects, research information, reach out for meetings (in person, by email, and by phone), and schedule meetings

Cultivate relationships with current SFLA and SFLAction supporters in caseload and grow their support

Carefully track relationships with supporters and prospects in the SFLA and SFLAction development databases and submit progress reports to supervisor on a weekly basis

Identify and carryout strategies to best engage adult supporters

Attend and host events to represent Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action at the local, regional, and national capacity to meet new prospects and grow relationships with existing donors

Contact via email or text caseload donors and prospects when there is a large Pro-Life Generation event in their area (President speaking, mobilization, National Pro-Life Summit)

Supportive Tasks

Assist Development Team in coordinating events on the national and local scale

Organize and host a regional gala(s) and/or events

Participate in national fundraising campaigns

Assist in projects and the creation of materials

Attend program related events on campuses throughout the year

Maintain and spearhead designated Development Team project

cards written and phone calls made weekly, along with other donor thank you touches made

Work with Development Team to create special donor gift campaigns for High Dollar ($1000+) and Major Gifts ($5000+) touches (i.e. Christmas Cards and gifts)

Position Details

Position Type

This is a full-time salaried position working at least 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours can be somewhat flexible by request.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Major Gift Officer will report to the Major Gifts Manager and Director of Development and will have no supervisory responsibilities

Physical Demands

Must have the ability to operate technical equipment such as a computer and sit for extended periods of time.

Must be able to withstand long periods of driving.

Other physical demands may include: setting up galas/ local events, tables for conferences/ events and participating in local and national pro-life marches. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Travel

80% (minimum of 2 trips a month)

Work Authorization

Must be able to successfully complete an I-9. The I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States.

QualificationsQualifications

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
Knowledge of grammar rules and utilize the oxford comma
Budget management as a budget will be provided within which the MGO is responsible for ordering all supplies, covering travel expenses, etc.
Ability to work independently and with little direct supervision in carrying out the core functions listed above
Communicate intelligently with donors
Exemplary organization skills
Ability to multi-task
Grant writing and/or event experience is a plus
Public speaking is a plus

Must be teachable to learn SFLA technologies and platforms.
Candidates must be self-motivated, a good problem solver, have an entrepreneurial spirit, expert multi-tasker, maintain confidentiality, able to work independently, and be a highly organized person.
Good with people in person and over the phone. Present yourself well at events.
Ready and able to learn and grow in fundraising strategy.
Ability to quickly pivot to changing plans, events, strategy, etc.
Manage SFLA and SFLAction overlapping narratives, projects, and programs.
Goal-oriented as team and individual fundraising goals will be provided.
