About the Role


arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Data Engineer to serve as a technical powerhouse helping us scale our data infrastructure, automation, and tools to meet growing business needs. This is a hybrid/flexible position ideally located near one of our engineering hubs in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle.

In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data pipelines that power critical business decisions across the entire organization. You'll work alongside talented engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to transform complex data requirements into scalable, performant solutions that.deliver high-quality, reliable data at every touchpoint.

What You'll Do



  • Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with colleagues and partners across departments to understand data requirements and translate business needs into technical specifications

  • Cross-functional partnership: Partner with engineering, product teams, and external stakeholders to gather, validate, and integrate required data sources

  • Architect data solutions: Design, develop, and execute large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data models and pipelines for our Data Lake and Data Warehouse environments

  • Build reusable frameworks: Create scalable structures that improve the reliability, maintainability, and performance of our ETL processes

  • Data product ownership: Manage and oversee a suite of data products that deliver high-quality, consistent, and trustworthy data to downstream consumers

  • Mentorship and leadership: Tutor and mentor colleagues, providing guidance on best practices, design patterns, and technical solutions

  • Innovation and optimization: Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to improve our data infrastructure

Essential Qualifications



  • Professional experience: Minimum 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or a closely related technical role

  • Programming expertise: Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or Java

  • ETL and workflow tools: 3+ years of experience with ETL deployment and workflow management tools including Airflow, Flink, Oozie, or Azkaban, preferably using AWS or GCP cloud platforms

  • Technical fundamentals: Mastery of database fundamentals, advanced SQL, and distributed computing concepts

  • Distributed systems: Experience with distributed data ecosystems including Spark, Hive, Druid, or Voila, along with streaming technologies such as Kafka or Flink

  • Database platforms: Hands-on experience working with Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and/or other database management systems

  • Reporting and visualization: Knowledge of reporting and business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Superset, or Looker

  • Communication skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities with demonstrated experience working effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Work style: Comfortable thriving in a fast-paced environment, with strong self-starter qualities and excellent self-organization skills

  • Analytical thinking: Ability to think conceptually, analyze complex data, and interpret market and consumer information to drive informed decisions

Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with real-time data processing and streaming architectures

  • Background in building data meshes or data fabric architectures

  • Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and MLOps practices

  • Experience in high-growth technology companies or startup environments

  • Understanding of privacy regulations and data governance frameworks
