Prince William County is a growing, diverse, and dynamic community seeking a full-time Special Inspections Engineer to support residential and commercial construction projects. The role involves a mix of office and field work, including reviewing construction drawings and performing quality assurance inspections on active construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards.


Responsibilities

  • Contributing to and inspiring a successful team in a role that blends field and office work
  • Tackling complex technical and process challenges
  • Assisting others and delivering exceptional customer service
  • Reviewing construction drawings and engineering reports
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure public safety in completed facilities
  • Visiting active construction sites to perform quality assurance inspections
  • Ensuring work is progressing according to the approved plans, building code requirements and County policy and procedures
  • Effective communication with contractors, engineers, and third-party inspectors to ensure code compliance and construction safety

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 1 year of relevant experience, such as work as a design professional, construction inspector, plan reviewer, or code enforcement inspector
  • Must be certified as an E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) within 18 months of employment
  • Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development as a Commercial Building Inspector within 18 months of employment, in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
  • Must become certified as a Residential Building Inspector within 36 months of employment in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must pass a DMV records check
  • 1 year of engineering experience
  • Skills using MS Office and occasionally structural and geotechnical engineering software and CAD
  • Experience with computer data entry to prepare, maintain, and update reports under different formats
  • Experience applying code knowledge in order to perform quality control reviews
  • Experience scheduling maintenance and inspections prior to building inspections
