Position Overview


The Senior Internal Audit Data Analyst will play a critical role in transforming our Internal Audit Risk-Based Approach and SOX compliance program through advanced data analytics and automation. This position reports to the Internal Audit Partner Head of Examination and Automation and will work closely with cross-functional teams across the organization to identify risks, develop analytical solutions, and drive continuous improvement in our audit processes.

Key Responsibilities



  • Analytics & Automation Development: Work with Internal Audit Staff to identify and execute on analytical and automation opportunities within internal audit. Leverage Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Analytical Process Automation (APA) to streamline manual tasks and enhance audit efficiency.

  • Dashboard Creation: Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards using visualization tools such as Tableau to provide real-time insights into high-risk audit areas and business processes.

  • Statistical Analysis: Conduct statistical analysis and create continuous monitoring mechanisms over high-risk areas to proactively identify anomalies, fraud indicators, and control weaknesses.

  • Data Analysis & Testing: Plan, perform, and document data analysis methodologies to validate the adequacy and effectiveness of business processes, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.

  • Investigation Support: Conduct investigations regarding data anomalies and mesh those findings into a compelling narrative that is actionable for business stakeholders.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand risks that must be monitored and the business processes behind them. Partner with business and Data Warehouse teams to evaluate and maintain the quality and satisfaction of data being used.

  • Proactive Risk Monitoring: Proactively monitor risks to identify trends that are sources of opportunity or potential issues, determine root causes, and work with colleagues on next steps.

  • Data Validation: Review datasets for completeness and accuracy by binding them to sources of truth. Ensure data integrity across all analytical outputs.

  • Training & Enablement: Create and deliver data analysis training for internal audit staff to build analytical capabilities throughout the department.

  • Insight Generation: Create, maintain, and improve analytical solutions to provide business insights that guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities.

Essential Qualifications



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Economics, Data Management, or a related degree with analytical or quantitative emphasis

  • Technical Skills: Strong SQL skills with a working understanding of databases, ETL processes, and data modeling on unstructured or semi-structured datasets across various business functions

  • Programming Abilities: Ability to develop production-level code using programming languages such as SAS, R, or Python

  • BI Tools Expertise: Demonstrated experience with Business Intelligence tools including Tableau, Power BI, KNIME, OBIEE, or Alteryx

  • Analytical Experience: Experience interpreting data, designing statistics, and analyzing results using exploratory or statistical techniques

  • ETL Proficiency: Related experience leading ETL (Extract/Transform/Load) work

  • Presentation Skills: Experience presenting findings to colleagues across the organization, including executive management

  • Analytical Mindset: Excellent technical skills and a strong passion for data analysis and investigation, with intellectual curiosity in the quest for answers to the cause-and-effect relationships of business outcomes

  • Self-Motivation: A self-starter mindset and ability to work in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment

  • Statistical Knowledge: A solid understanding of statistical methods such as regression, predictive modeling, forecasting, time series analysis, and clustering, with the ability to apply these to answer business needs including fraud analysis and anomaly detection

  • Data Handling: Ability to deal with imperfect information, uncertainty, and both unstructured and structured data

  • Experience Level: Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in data analysis, data science, or internal audit with data analysis focus

Preferred Qualifications



  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field (Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Finance, or related area)

  • Experience with predictive models and machine learning in fraud and anomaly detection

  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal audit frameworks

  • Experience in the pet industry or retail/e-commerce sector

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or similar professional certifications

  • Experience working in agile or fast-paced startup environments

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical findings into business-appropriate language

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to address complex business challenges

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-growing environment and stay current with emerging risks, tools, and technologies
