Position Overview

The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for applying highly complex advanced data science, predictive analytics, and machine learning techniques to provide insights and actionable recommendations. This role involves providing analytical consulting support for program improvement and cross-functional initiatives, working collaboratively with finance, research, software developers, and business leaders to define product requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build Models and Tools: Develop sophisticated models and analytical tools utilizing technical expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, probability and decision theory, and other quantitative methods. Innovate by adapting to new modeling techniques and procedures as the field evolves.


• Business Understanding: Understand the business context behind large datasets and develop meaningful analytic solutions that directly address organizational challenges and opportunities.


• Advanced Statistical Analysis: Apply analytical rigor and statistical techniques to analyze large volumes of data using advanced statistical methods including predictive statistical models, customer profiling, segmentation analysis, survey design, analysis, and data mining. Build recommendation and optimization algorithmic designs, perform data retrieval, complexity analysis, and scientific computing.


• Programming Expertise: Program using technical stack including Python, PySpark, Matplotlib, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other relevant languages and frameworks.


• Machine Learning Techniques: Perform machine learning techniques and supervised and unsupervised algorithms to build predictive models and prescriptive solutions to support diverse business use cases.


• Algorithm Development: Build algorithms including decision trees, regression, XGBoost, K-means, and anomaly detection. Apply interpretable machine learning and Bayesian theory to solve complex business problems.


• Cloud Computing: Utilize Cloud Computing on Azure/Databricks and perform querying in Snowflake to manage and analyze large-scale data environments.


• Software Development Practices: Utilize software tools and methodologies including GitHub, continuous integration and delivery, and agile methodologies to ensure efficient and reliable delivery of analytical solutions.


• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with finance, researchers, software developers, and business leaders to define product requirements and provide analytical support for various initiatives.


• Communication and Presentation: Communicate verbally and in writing to business clients and management team with diverse levels of technical expertise, educating them about our systems while sharing insights and recommendations that drive business value.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of experience in data science, machine learning, quantitative or computational capabilities OR High School/GED and a minimum of seven years of experience in data science, machine learning, quantitative or computational capabilities.


• M.S. in STEM, Computer Science, Information Systems, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, or similar technical discipline.


• At least four years of experience operating with large-scale, complex datasets to create/optimize machine learning, predictive, forecasting, and/or optimization models.


• Advanced experience in SQL, Python, PySPark or other programming languages.


• Advanced level proficiency in exploratory data analysis, feature engineering and selection, detecting patterns, analyzing distributions, visualizing results, and extracting insights to assist businesses in making informed data-driven decisions.


• Experience using decision trees and building classifiers.


• Experience with supervised learning techniques including linear and logistic regression, time series modeling, generalized linear models, decision trees, support vector machines, and related methods.


• Experience with unsupervised learning techniques including K-means, hierarchical clustering, association rules, and principal components analysis.


• Experience with Cloud ML systems, distributed computing, data pipelines, cloud data stores, and serving engines.


• Experience designing and analyzing A/B experiments.


• Advanced level proficiency in conveying rigorous technical standards and issues to non-technical audiences.


• Experience operating in dynamic environments and working with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results on time.


• Experience effectively communicating technical solutions and advocating to research scientists, engineering teams, and business audiences.


• At least two years of experience contributing to financial decisions within the workplace.


• At least two years of direct management, indirect management, and/or cross-functional team management experience.


• Willingness to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes, both domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in STEM, Computer Science, Information Systems, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, or similar technical discipline.


• Experience operating with IoT and Edge AI technologies.


• Experience in Reinforcement Learning applications.


• Experience in the Healthcare industry, particularly in retail pharmacy or medical services contexts.
