As an arenaflex Data Modeler, you will dig into our mammoth scale of data to help unleash the power of retail data science by imagining, developing, and maintaining data models that our Data Engineers, Scientists, and Analysts can rely on. You will partner with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Stewards, other engineers, and business stakeholders to solve complex and exciting modeling and analytical challenges so that we can build out capabilities that evolve the retail business model while making a positive impact on our customers' lives.

About the Data Engineering Team at arenaflex

Everyone has data, but the sheer volume of data at arenaflex can be limitless. In the Data Engineering team, we help arenaflex manage this data by building pipelines and data lakes to prepare big data for analysis and unlocking actionable insights in real-time. We also use cross-departmental data and machine learning to build a holistic view of true profitability, saving millions of dollars across item categories and geographies while assisting our leadership in making better decisions faster.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Data Modeler at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in our Data Ventures initiative. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our retail operations, analytics, and machine learning capabilities.

Collaborate with Application Development: Work closely with the Application Development team to implement data strategies, build efficient data flows, and develop robust conceptual data models that serve as the foundation for our enterprise applications.

Design Excellence: Create logical and physical data models using industry best practices to ensure high data quality and support application, batch, and interactive use cases across the organization.

Model Optimization: Create, optimize, and update logical and physical data models to support new and existing projects according to company standards, ensuring scalability and performance.

Multi-Platform Expertise: Develop data modeling solutions optimized for relational, dimensional, and NoSQL databases, leveraging the most appropriate technology for each use case.

Metadata Management: Maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models along with corresponding metadata, ensuring comprehensive documentation and lineage tracking.

Best Practices Development: Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models across all projects and teams.

Reusable Solutions: Recommend opportunities for reuse of data models in new environments, maximizing our investment in data architecture.

Reverse Engineering: Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts to understand and document existing systems.

Quality Assurance: Evaluate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies, ensuring data integrity throughout the organization.

Business Validation: Validate business data objects for accuracy and completeness, working closely with business stakeholders to ensure alignment.

Technical Leadership: Analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions that meet both technical and business requirements.

Team Guidance: Guide System Analysts, Engineers, Programmers, and others on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.

Code Review: Review modifications to existing software to improve efficiency and performance, ensuring best practices are followed.

Architecture Design: Examine new application design and recommend corrections if required, providing expert guidance on data architecture decisions.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in data modeling and warehouse design. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership capabilities.

Essential Qualifications:

Academic Background: Good academic record with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech/MBA preferred).

Extensive Experience: At least 10+ years of hands-on data warehousing experience, demonstrating deep expertise in the field.

Modeling Expertise: Strong knowledge of different data modeling techniques for data warehousing, including 3NF (Third Normal Form), Dimensional, and hybrid approaches.

Scale Experience: Experience working on large-scale data warehouses (100 TB+) and operational data stores (ODS), with demonstrated ability to handle massive datasets.

Technology Proficiency: Significant experience in building data models for MPP (Massively Parallel Processing), Relational, and NoSQL technologies, including BigData, Hive, SQL*Server, Hadoop, Cassandra, and Cloud databases such as Big Query and/or Snowflake.

Global Collaboration: Good experience working with globally distributed teams in a collaborative and productive manner, demonstrating cultural awareness and communication skills.

Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills across a variety of stakeholders, with the ability to negotiate with and influence others at all levels of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 3 years' experience in data modeling, data analytics, data warehouse, software engineering, or related field.

Option 2: 5 years' experience in data modeling, data analytics, data warehouse, software engineering, or related field.

Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science or related field and 1 year's experience in data modeling, data analytics, data warehouse, software engineering, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Data Modeling, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.

Relevant industry experience in retail, supply chain, eCommerce, healthcare, or similar domains.

Certifications in data modeling or data warehouse methodologies.

Experience with cloud-native data platforms and modern data architecture patterns.
