We are seeking a Senior Consultant to join our growing Northeast Employee Benefits practice. This is a highly strategic, client-facing role focused on leading complex mid-market and large-market client relationships, developing innovative benefits strategies, and serving as a trusted advisor to CFOs, CHROs, HR leaders, and executive leadership teams.
This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned Employee Benefits consultant who enjoys building long-term client partnerships, influencing strategic business decisions, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to the growth of a collaborative consulting practice. RESPONSIBILITIES
What You’ll Do / Your Impact
Client Strategy & Executive Consulting
Serve as Client Team Lead for a portfolio of mid-market and large-market Employee Benefits clients
Lead strategic benefits planning and consulting initiatives for employers ranging from approximately 100 lives to several thousand lives
Build and maintain strong relationships with CFOs, CHROs, HR leaders, and executive stakeholders
Develop multi-year benefits strategies aligned with client objectives and workforce needs
Advise clients on funding strategies including fully insured, self-funded, level-funded, and captive arrangements
Negotiate renewal and marketing strategies with carriers and vendor partners
Serve as a trusted advisor on emerging market trends, legislative developments, and industry best practices
Respond to escalated client matters and provide strategic guidance on complex benefits issues
Support retention, growth, and profitability of assigned client relationships
Operational Leadership
Lead execution of the client lifecycle process through proactive planning and strategic oversight
Prepare and deliver executive-level client presentations with support from Account Managers and Analysts
Ensure client compliance requirements and regulatory deadlines are met
Perform quality review and oversight of work completed by other team members
Ensure client deliverables and documentation are completed accurately and on time
Remain current on industry trends, legislation, funding strategies, and emerging benefits solutions
Practice Growth & Team Development
Mentor and support the professional development of Account Managers, Analysts, and other team members
Share industry knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas that contribute to practice growth
Collaborate across Alera specialty practices including Pharmacy Solutions, Captives, Wellness, Value-Based Care, and other strategic initiatives
Support cross-selling opportunities that enhance client outcomes and strengthen relationships
Contribute to the continued growth and evolution of the Northeast Employee Benefits practice
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Bring
Required
Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Risk Management, Finance, or equivalent professional experience
10+ years of Employee Benefits consulting experience preferred
Active State Life & Health Insurance License
Strong knowledge of Employee Benefits plan design, funding strategies, compliance, and market trends
Experience advising clients across multiple funding arrangements including fully insured, self-funded, level-funded, and captive programs
Proven executive presence with experience consulting directly with CFOs, CHROs, CEOs, and senior leadership teams
Demonstrated success managing complex client relationships and developing strategic benefits solutions
Ability to think strategically while executing tactical deliverables
Strong presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Preferred
Experience consulting on large and complex Employee Benefits programs
Familiarity with pharmacy strategy, Rx carve-outs, point solutions, wellness programs, value-based care, and captive arrangements
Experience mentoring, coaching, or developing junior team members
Prior experience within a national, regional, or large-market consulting environment
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Salary Range: $180,000 - $200,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Work Model: Remote
Candidates should be comfortable attending quarterly team meetings and occasional in-person client meetings. Preference will be given to candidates located within the Northeast, New England, Tri-State, or Northern Pennsylvania regions to support collaboration and client engagement.
