Position Overview


We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Big Data Software Engineer to join our team in a part-time remote capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data processing systems that support our risk management infrastructure. You will lead complex initiatives, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities


As a Senior Big Data Software Engineer at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that drive our data ecosystem forward. Your primary duties will include:


  • Leading Complex Initiatives: Drive moderately complex projects and initiatives within the technical domain, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

  • Architectural Planning: Contribute to large-scale planning of technical strategies and systems, aligning technology solutions with business objectives.

  • Software Development: Design, code, test, debug, and document applications and projects related to technology domains, including upgrades and deployments.

  • Technical Problem Solving: Review complex technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of technologies and frameworks to develop effective solutions.

  • Issue Resolution: Resolve moderately complex problems and lead a team to meet existing client needs or identify potential new client requirements while utilizing a strong understanding of the function, methods, techniques, or compliance requirements.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve project goals.

  • Team Leadership: Lead projects and serve as an escalation point, providing guidance and direction to less experienced staff members.

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design and implement robust ETL data streams using mappings and workflows to extract data from various sources including SQL Server and data transformation from Oracle/Access/Excel sheets using SQL Server SSIS.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of overall programming experience, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Hadoop ecosystem and big data processing frameworks.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Teradata database systems.

  • 3+ years of experience with MongoDB and NoSQL database technologies.

  • 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform.

  • 3+ years of experience with version control systems including GitHub and Bitbucket.

  • 3+ years of experience in designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting applications and projects.

  • 3+ years of experience in Python and Unix/Shell scripting, as well as familiarity with Scala, Flash, HBase, Oozie, Flume, and Kafka.

  • 3+ years of experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation.
