The Patient Account Specialist role focuses on supporting patients through billing and insurance inquiries, ensuring a positive and respectful experience while managing patient communications and contributing to operational smoothness.
Responsibilities
- Answer inbound patient calls in a high-volume call center environment
- Assist patients with billing questions and insurance-related inquiries
- Process payments and establish payment plans
- Escalate unresolved issues to the Accounts Receivable team
- Communicate effectively to resolve billing concerns
- Build rapport through courteous and friendly interactions
- Maintain professional relationships representing the business office, clinic, and physician positively
- Refer complex calls or situations to team leads or managers
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with discretion and professionalism
- Exceptional oral, written, and presentation communication skills
- Strong active listening, attention to detail, and multitasking capabilities
- Proven problem-solving skills with timely resolution
- Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused and participate in routine check-ins
- Quiet, distraction-free workspace compliant with HIPAA standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software applications
- Experience in high-volume call centers and/or medical billing
- Healthcare industry experience
