Principal User Experience Designer
Posted 2026-05-06We are seeking a Principal UX Designer to lead experience design for complex reporting, data visualization, and learning analytics experiences across our K–12 educational technology platforms. This role will also serve as a senior leader in evolving and optimizing our mature design system.
This is not a component-consumer role. We are looking for someone who has built, scaled, and governed design systems in mature product environments — and who understands how system thinking elevates reporting, dashboards, and AI-driven insights at scale.
You will work at the intersection of product strategy, AI innovation, analytics, and scalable design infrastructure — translating complex educational data into intuitive, actionable experiences for educators and administrators.
What You’ll Own
1. Reporting & Data Visualization Strategy
You will lead the UX strategy and execution for high-impact reporting and dashboard initiatives, including:
Administrative dashboards and system-level reporting tools
Complex student performance and growth data visualizations
AI-driven insight experiences (e.g., Assignment AI Insights)
Combined math, literacy, and Lexile reporting enhancements
Learning analytics experiences within multi-product ecosystems
You will:
Translate complex educational data, learning analytics, and AI outputs into clear, actionable user experiences
Define visualization patterns that scale across products
Ensure dashboards support decision-making, not just data display
Simplify multi-dimensional datasets without oversimplifying meaning
Establish UX principles for reporting consistency across product lines
2. Design System Leadership (Mature System Environment)
You will play a critical role in strengthening and optimizing our design system.
We are specifically looking for someone who has:
Built components from scratch — not just assembled existing libraries
Defined usage guidelines, interaction models, and accessibility standards
Partnered with engineering to implement token-based systems
Led governance, contribution models, and release cycles
Improved system adoption across multiple product teams
Responsibilities include:
Expanding system patterns for data visualization and reporting
Defining scalable charting, dashboard, and insight components
Creating documentation that enables consistency across teams
Establishing feedback loops between product design and system evolution
Driving process optimization for intake, review, and release
Ensuring accessibility and performance standards are embedded at the system level
3. Cross-Product Experience Alignment
Provide strategic UX continuity across multiple product lines
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and AI teams
Align reporting experiences across platforms to reduce fragmentation
Establish UX standards for how AI insights are surfaced and explained
Ensure experience cohesion while enabling product-specific differentiation
What You Bring
Required Experience
8+ years in UX/Product Design, including experience at a senior or principal level
Deep expertise in data visualization and dashboard design
Demonstrated experience designing complex administrative or analytics tools
Experience working with AI-driven features and insight surfacing
Proven experience building and scaling a mature design system
Experience creating components, not just consuming them
Strong understanding of:
Design tokens
Accessibility (WCAG)
Interaction modeling
Responsive and scalable layout systems
Data visualization best practices
Experience partnering directly with engineering to ensure system fidelity
Ideal Background
Experience in EdTech, SaaS, enterprise platforms, or analytics-heavy products
Experience designing for educators, administrators, or institutional users
Familiarity with learning analytics or student performance reporting
Experience working in multi-product ecosystems
Experience leading cross-functional design reviews and governance
How You Think
Systems thinker — you see patterns across products and create scalable solutions
Data translator — you make complexity understandable without losing nuance
Craft-driven — you care deeply about interaction details and clarity
Process optimizer — you improve how design systems are built and maintained
Strategic partner — you influence roadmap decisions, not just screens
AI-curious — you think critically about how insights are presented, explained, and trusted
Impact You’ll Have
Elevate reporting from “data display” to decision-support experiences
Improve consistency and scalability across products through system maturity
Enable faster development through robust, well-documented components
Increase clarity and usability of AI-generated insights
Reduce UX fragmentation across the product ecosystem
