Payroll and Compliance Specialist

Bamboo Insurance is looking for a Payroll and Compliance Specialist to own and help scale our multi-state payroll operations. In this role, you will serve as the primary owner of the biweekly payroll processing while also overseeing our payroll tax and multi state compliance. You will work cross-functionally with our Finance/Accounting and Legal team to ensure accurate, compliant timely pay for our employees. You will also apply a continuous improvement mindset across day-to-day processing, system builds, and automation initiatives. This role is well-suited for a payroll professional who is equally comfortable in the details of a complex pay run and leading cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Process a biweekly payroll on time with accuracy
Analyze and reconcile payroll discrepancies
Build and deliver reports to cross functional with a primary focus on Finance.
Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding and other information.
Assist in providing final pay upon separation abiding by all state or local laws
Handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality
Lead tax registrations in new jurisdictions and closure of inactive tax accounts
Monitor regulatory developments and assess impacts on payroll operations; recommend and implement necessary process or system changes]
Team player with a curiosity to explore other areas of HR and support members of the team as opportunities arise
Required Skills/Abilities:
Experience processing payroll
Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, payroll taxes and internal controls
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment, prioritizing tasks to meet strict payroll cycles
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
Two years payroll and compliance experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Deep understanding of payroll laws, including FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) and wage garnishments.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience working in the insurance industry is a plus.
Experience supporting multi-state payroll processing
Knowledge of California payroll and labor laws
Paycom experience
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Salary: Starting at $60,000 annually. Candidate's skills, experience and abilities will be taken into consideration for final offer.
