The Mechanical Engineer – Heavy Machines role focuses on developing automated heavy equipment to enhance safety and efficiency in industrial tasks, involving design, CAD engineering, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design & CAD Engineering
- Create, manage, and organize detailed CAD models and drawings, including importing, simplifying, and documenting designs
- Develop CAD models of existing hardware to support system integration and design improvements
- Model 3D sheet‑metal parts and complex multi‑part assemblies using Onshape (preferred)
- Documentation & Drafting
- Produce 2D fabrication drawings with accurate GD&T (ASME Y14.5), welding symbols, annotations, and bend details
- Optimize sheet‑metal parts, generate flat patterns, and support fabrication readiness
- Manage large assemblies, hardware lists, sub‑assemblies, and generate complete BOMs including electrical revisions and buyout components
- Quality & Engineering Control
- Maintain and revise drawings and assemblies based on Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
- Review drawings and assemblies with a strong attention to detail to catch issues early and ensure high‑quality deliverables
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with product owners to translate requirements into designs that meet safety, performance, and usability goals
- Provide technical input for operator manuals, assembly documentation, and maintenance guides
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 1 to 4 years of experience in robotics, automotive, automation, or similar domains
- Strong proficiency in CAD tools: Onshape, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Working knowledge of GD&T and welding processes
- Experience with sheet‑metal design, flat patterns, and assembly-level modeling
- Exposure to pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across mechanical, electrical, and product teams
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and improve design documentation
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Hands‑on experience in prototyping, testing, or hardware builds
- Demonstrated interest in automation, robotics, or safety‑critical systems
