The Role
We are looking for a Legal Research Mentor to support high-achieving pre-law students through the development and completion of original research projects across law, legal studies, public policy, political science, and related disciplines. If you hold a PhD and are passionate about mentorship, this role is an excellent fit! This is a part-time, remote, 1099 contract role that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.
- Responsibilities
- Mentor undergraduate students through the full research process, from topic selection and study design to execution and final deliverables
- Guide students in developing feasible, high-quality research questions aligned with their academic and career goals
- Provide structured feedback on research plans, data interpretation, and written research drafts
- Help students understand research standards and discipline-specific expectations
- Support students pursuing outcomes such as academic papers, posters, or journal submissions, depending on program scope
- Track progress against defined milestones and timelines to ensure consistent forward momentum
- Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant field (e.g., law, legal studies, public policy, political science, or related disciplines)
- Demonstrated experience conducting academic or legal research
- Strong background in research design, data analysis, and academic writing
- Experience mentoring students or trainees
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong planning, organization, and project management skills
- A passion for mentorship and student development
Expected hours: 5.0 – 20.0 per week
