What You'll Do at arenaflex

As a Lead Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will be at the forefront of our data science initiatives, leading the development and deployment of sophisticated algorithms that revolutionize how we operate. Your responsibilities will span the entire data science lifecycle, from problem definition and data collection to model development, validation, and production deployment. Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the development and utilization of advanced numerical and statistical theory and techniques to create long-term forecasting calculations that solve critical business problems in the retail sector, with a deep understanding of decision science methodologies.

  • Transform retail operations by automating numerous processes that currently require manual intervention and decision-making through science and statistical models, improving efficiency and accuracy across the organization.

  • Collect, organize, analyze, interpret, and summarize large volumes of time-series data to generate strategic insights that lead to new and innovative applications for the business.

  • Investigate complex and rich datasets, evaluate business challenges, develop problem statements, define metrics, and drive feasibility studies to determine the best approach for solving key business questions.

  • Perform data analysis tasks, extract meaningful insights, and create compelling storyboards from data analysis that effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Present clear and precise root cause analysis to peer scientists and leadership, translating complex statistical findings into actionable business recommendations.

  • Build training workflows for machine learning algorithms on millions of data points, creating algorithmic solutions including data understanding, feature engineering, model development, validation, and model deployment.

  • Lead and develop large-scale implementations of machine learning models and algorithmic solutions using rich retail data sources, ensuring scalability and performance.

  • Assess model performance and identify improvements to enhance model accuracy, reliability, and business impact over time.

  • Collaborate with the global AI team, including scientists, engineers, and colleagues, to identify and lead new opportunities for innovation and business growth.

  • Advocate for best programming practices and model individual components of data science solutions, ensuring code quality and reproducibility across the team.

Required Skills and Expertise

To succeed in this role, you must possess a strong foundation in machine learning, probability theory, statistics, optimization theory, deep learning, and data pipeline engineering. You should be comfortable working with distributed systems and have experience in database architecture, linear programming, and data mining. Your technical toolkit should include proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, R, Python, Flash, C, JavaScript, Scala, Hadoop, Hive, HTML, MATLAB, Java, and Command Shell.

Essential Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field is required.

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Scientist (any title) is essential.

  • Proven experience participating in advanced machine learning activities including regression, clustering, and forecasting.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and execution of analytical and data science modeling solutions using techniques including data mining, machine learning, or text mining.

  • Strong foundation in numerical concepts, algorithms, and computational complexity.

  • Experience collaborating with colleagues to deliver business value to the organization.

  • Proven track record of presenting findings and reports to partners and stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, R, SAS, risk analysis, and data manipulation is required.

  • At least two (2) years of experience working with large volumes of data and solving complex business problems.

  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end data science solutions including problem statement development, feature engineering, model development, evaluation and testing, and deployment to production environments.

  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams to resolve issues in production pipelines.

  • Knowledge of productionizing, analyzing, and monitoring data science models in online environments.

  • Proficiency with Hive or Hadoop, machine learning, text mining, and Flash.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Doctorate (PhD) in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field is preferred.

  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Scientist if holding a PhD.

  • Experience working with real-time data streaming and event processing systems.

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for model deployment.

  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience in retail or e-commerce analytics is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
