Title:

Industrial Designer Needed for Concept Design – Handheld Kitchen Tool (Electric Bread Scorer)

Description:

I’m looking for an experienced industrial/product designer to help bring a new kitchen tool concept to life.

The product is a handheld, vibration-assisted bread scoring tool (used in sourdough baking) designed to make scoring dough easier, smoother, and more consistent—especially for beginners.

I have already created a working prototype using a modified electric toothbrush with a mounted razor blade, and the core functionality has been validated. The next step is to translate this idea into a well-designed, user-friendly, and manufacturable concept.

Scope of Work (Phase 1 – Concept Design Only):

Develop 2–3 design concepts for the product

Create rough sketches and/or basic 3D renderings

Propose a safe and secure method for holding a replaceable razor blade

Explore ergonomic handle shapes for comfort and control

Consider overall form factor and usability (kitchen-friendly, easy to clean)

Key Priorities:

Ease of use (especially for beginner bakers)

Safety (blade protection and stability)

Simple, clean design suitable for a consumer kitchen product

Maintaining the effectiveness of vibration-assisted cutting

What I’m NOT looking for at this stage:

Detailed engineering or manufacturing files

Complex internal mechanical design

Final production-ready CAD

This is an initial concept phase, with the opportunity for continued work if it’s a good fit.

Budget:

Fixed price – $500

(Potential for ongoing work and additional phases)

Ideal Candidate:

Experience in industrial/product design (consumer products preferred)

Strong portfolio of simple, functional designs

Ability to think through usability and real-world interaction

Comfortable working from an early-stage prototype

To Apply:

Please include:

A few examples of relevant product design work

A brief note on how you would approach this type of project

Any initial thoughts or questions based on the description

Looking forward to collaborating!
