What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in driving our data analytics initiatives forward. Your responsibilities will span multiple domains, requiring a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and strong communication skills. Here's what you can expect:

Statistics Source Identity & Data Management

• Develop deep knowledge of functional business areas and operational scenarios to understand data categories and storage locations


• Identify and document business data requirements and work with Database technology and distributed datastores (SQL, NoSQL)


• Ensure data quality by performing preliminary data quality assessments on extracted datasets


• Understand existing business structures and processes, including key drivers and measures of success


• Assist in understanding the priority order of requirements and service level agreements


• Identify the most suitable data sources that are fit for purpose

Code Development & Testing

• Write clean, efficient code to develop analytical solutions and applications using recommended programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, Java, or C++


• Apply various testing techniques including static analysis, dynamic testing, software composition analysis, and manual penetration testing


• Leverage business, technical, and data requirements to build robust analytical solutions


• Implement best practices for code review and ensure scalability of developed models

Model Analysis, Validation & Tuning

• Conduct model fit testing, tuning, and validation using techniques such as Chi-square, ROC curves, and root mean square error


• Understand the impact of variables and features on model performance


• Identify appropriate model evaluation metrics for different business scenarios


• Apply best practice techniques for model testing and tuning to assess accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness


• Work with multi-stage models and model ensembles to deliver comprehensive analytical solutions

Data Visualization & Storytelling

• Generate appropriate graphical representations of data and model results using tools like Python, R libraries, GGplot, Matplotlib, Plotly, Tableau, or PowerBI


• Understand customer requirements to design effective data representations for multiple datasets


• Collaborate with user experience designers and UI engineers to build front-end applications


• Present complex findings to team and business audiences using appropriate visualization frameworks


• Convey clear messages through business and stakeholder understanding


• Personalize communication style based on stakeholder needs


• Guide and mentor junior associates on story types, structures, and visualization strategies

Understanding Business Context

• Provide recommendations to business stakeholders to solve complex business problems


• Develop business cases for projects with projected return on investment or cost savings


• Translate business requirements into projects, activities, and responsibilities


• Align analytical work to overall business strategy and develop domain-specific artifacts


• Function as an interpreter and conduit to connect business needs with tangible solutions


• Identify and recommend relevant business insights relating to your area of work

Technical Problem Formulation

• Translate business problems within your field to data-related or mathematical solutions


• Identify appropriate techniques and tools to provide solutions for complex problems


• Apply analytics, big data analytics, and automation techniques to business challenges


• Share use cases and provide examples demonstrating how approaches would solve business problems

Analytical Modeling

• Select the most suitable analytical modeling methods for complex data and develop custom analytical models


• Conduct exploratory data analysis activities including basic statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and statistical inferences


• Define and finalize features based on model responses and introduce new or revised features to enhance analysis


• Design experiments, test hypotheses, and conduct trend and cluster analysis


• Apply advanced statistical techniques including graphical models, Bayesian inference, NLP, computer vision, neural networks, SVM, and Random Forest


• Utilize multivariate calculus and classical optimization techniques (Newton-Raphson, Gradient descent)


• Apply numerical optimization methods including Linear Programming, Integer Programming, and Quadratic Programming


• Mentor and guide junior team members on modeling and analytics techniques

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need to meet the following minimum requirements:

• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field plus 3 years of experience in an analytics-related field


• Option 2: Master's degree in Data Science, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field plus 1 year of experience in an analytics-related field


• Option 3: 5 years of experience in an analytics or related field

Preferred Qualifications

We highly value candidates with additional expertise in the following areas:

• Advanced degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or Information Technology


• Experience with optimization models and operational research methodologies


• Proficiency in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, or related quantitative fields


• Strong programming skills in Python, Spark, Scala, or R


• Experience with open-source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch


• Knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and advanced statistical modeling techniques


• Experience with cloud platforms and big data technologies
